What is the schedule like for clinicals w/ NAC I? I am scheduled to drive to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, but live in New orleans. How much time should I plan on being at the hospital during NAC I, including picking up assignments and actual clinical time etc.?

It honestly depends on the teacher and the facility you are at. You have two rotations during NAC I and you are there two days each week. If I remember correctly, we had to be at the hospital by 7 and we were there until around maybe 3. It varies for everyone, though. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

My rotations were 1st at Ochsner days, pick up pt. day before,,took about and hour to hour & half,,be there in the morning at 6:30, and left at varied times depending on what was going on that day,,usually around 2:30 or so. 2nd rotation was at Ochsner Kenner in the evenings,,,be there around 5 (also pick up pt. day before at 5), then usually out by 10:30. I live on the northshore, so the drive was the added time management issue as you will have. Mornings are not as bad traffic-wise, but if you go in the evenings,,,allow extra time for traffic.

U will have to pick up you pt assignment the afternoon before. It will take you roughly an hour to go thru the chart and get what you need. Then you will have to look up all the meds that evening and write up your med sheets-do yourself a favor and do them on the computer so you can cut and paste throughout NACI and NACII. You will spend at least seven hours at the hospital for clinical days; mine was about 1.5 hours in a conference room for pre-conference discussions, then on the floor performing all nursing care including charting, then 10-15 minutes for post conference. The instructors for the most part do not encourage leaving the floor early because the course head (Ms. CM) pops in to each group at least once during the rotation. So make sure you adhere to the dress code, and keep your hair up, no dangly earrings, etc. If you have children, enroll them in aftercare, and encourage your spouse that it's time to step up to the plate!

It depends on who you have as an instructor and if you go day or night. I did nights at STPH the second half of this semester and we got our pt assignments when we got there right before we got on the floor. I did Touro the first half of the semester and we had to go the day/night before to pick up out pt and check the charts and meds and such (half the time though the pt was gone by the next day anyway, but what can you do, eh?). It all depends on your instructor though. PM me and I'll tell you who I had and what to expect.
