Charge nurse pay

Nurses General Nursing

How much do you get for charge pay at the hospital in which you are employed?

 Another aspect of nursing I think is flawed. How did we get to this point where we let employers treat us this way AND get us to drink the kool-aid that this is "just the way it is"? I'm constantly baffled, but at a loss as to how to promote the change. It just seems there are many more nurses who are willing to take the crap than are willing to mount a revolution. I do understand the need to earn a paycheck...

0 dollars AND a regular patient load (most of the time). Pretty generous, right?? :)

Same here.

There seems to be a lot of disparity among the pay rate and patient load. Now I'm wondering how much location and type of facility effect this or if it's just completely random.

I work in a large teaching hospital in Capital district NY state.

I think that this is an issue that nurses should consider changing. What other profession would permit this?

Not just "consider".. do something.

I refused charge if I also had to take a full assignment. Management knew they couldn't force me to do it, as it was NOT in the job description.

They came around pretty quick.
