dv8rn, I hate bedside report!! How can you discreetly say, "This patient is absolutely a pain in the rear" in front of them?!? Just kidding, I know those things can be said in private away from the patient. We do verbal team report and that is a pain because you have to sit throught report on 10-12 patients. It lasts TOO LONG!!!!!!!!

I like taped; it eliminates all but the necessities. Talk as fast as you want, there's the pause button.
On my end of it, i don't hafta get asked irrelevant, uniimportant questions that have nothing to do with what i did on my shift. (altho I will give you a heads-up on which labs to expect on which pts. and the results if they're in, but usually they're not)
We have taped report. I prefer it. We used to do verbal reports and they could be very lengthy. I used to get annoyed when I would give verbal report and some of the staff would start talking amongst themselves. Sometimes they would be disruptive enough that I would stop and wait for them to be quiet. There is still the same problem with the taped report, but at least I can hit the pause button until things quiet down. Do I like to control? Not much! I work on 3 units, and so do some of the other nursing staff. The way the facility is set up, most of us agree that the taped report works quite well for us.
