I will graduate high school this May, and I'm planning to go to CGCC for nursing. Is there a very long waiting list ? Or MCC has shorter one ? I'm planning to take pre-nursing this summer so that I can apply for nursing sooner. Does anyone know if that's a good plan ? I don't want to wait for too long. Also if I have to wait, what can I take in that time ? I hope I can get the answers, thanks everyone.

The waitlist will be about equal no matter where you go. The best option to avoid the waitlist is the CEP program which jumps you up to the front of the waitlist. You'll need additional pre-reqs which, depending on your math scores, may take 2 semesters+summer. This makes sense when you consider that you'll graduate with a Bachelors and Associates through CEP.

Sorry, the person above me is not correct. The wiatlist is significantly longer for cgcc because they only take about 30 CEP and 10 non CEP where as say mesa and scottsdale take between 90-120 students and only about 50% are CEP you have a better chance. also, you will NOT need additional pre reqs or co reqs for CEP if you choose UIU or ottawa, so again that is not always true. Also, you can always choose to start CEP through your third and fourth block, because block 1 and 2 are going to be the most difficult adjusting to the program. and another thing is that just because you are CEP you still have to wait a semester, maybe even two so please always take the info you get on here with a grain of salt. I already went through the process and this is exactly how it works. if i were you i would start you math and science asap

so do this, if you place in mat 121 hopefully you do...

mat 121 this summer with eng 101

bio 201 (assuming you took HS bio) summer semester 2

bio 202 fall17

mat 141 fall 17

psy 101 fall 17 OR sp 18 ( you don't need it to apply, just take it as some point)

im assuming you also already took chm 130 in high school ( if you did not then also take it fall 17)

this will ensure you can apply to the program this year as least

take hesi and apply this december if you pass it (super easy test)

then while you wait...

bio 205

HUM class

cre 101 (unless you test out)

eng 102

Make sense?

then once you have all maricopa co reqs done, which are all of them listed you will be done with in spring 2018 then you can apply to CEP

So, by 2018 may you will have already been on the wait list for 6 months and applying to CEP which will help bump you a little but not all the way up.

Thank you for bring up a good point that certain schools have more people who enter the program, however, this is still evened out when the population of those schools is significantly larger than CGC per Maricopa. Also, UIU still has no pre-reqs, true. Ottawa does have additional pre-regs required. So you're right, things should be validated before considered 100% true on an open forum.

You should be checking in with a nursing advisor at least every semester, they are the ones who can best advise you. Things often change, Ottawa does have pre & co-reqs, you were misinformed. Patho is a pre-req & Statistics a pre/co-req & if you do CEP, many of the universities (like Ottawa & ASU) don't accept HS chemistry, CHM 130/131 is a pre-req. While PP tentative schedule can be helpful, you need a nursing advisor to advise you, our two cents is helpful, but not always right or can change...take it worth a grain of salt & see an advisor. If you just graduated HS, meeting with an advisor would be step 1.

i thought ottowa just had co reqs and you can still apply with those in progress? not sure..
