Chancellor's careplan and crazy idea ?

I am still of course waiting for my CPNE materials to arrive so I can register -- passed my last exam 5/26.

I definitely plan to take Chancellor's Careplan workshop in Indiana before the CPNE, shortly before. And I know which workshop I want, and I know Excelsior knows Excelsior best but I want FIVE DAYS. I want practice and time for everything to gel. I've heard many say it's a great workshop. I can't afford it but I am taking it anyway, and have started studying by watching videos I bought on ebay.

Now my question, am I crazy? I live about 9 hours from the workshop and about 6 hours from Columbus. I was going to try to get my CPNE in NY because it's usually among the shortest wait, though I've heard Columbus is running about the same right now ('anticipating' the end of October, maybe a hair later depending on when my packet arrives).

I thought I'd save myself about 13 hours driving time and more than $100 (oh boy am I broke!) and cut out early on Friday and head ---- straight for the CPNE with everything really really fresh in my mind.

What time does the CPNE start on Friday evenings/(afternoon?) Is this feasable or am I truly nuts? It's just that I learn better by doing and no time like right after to test, for me, studying won't get me farther than the workshop will I really don't think, I plan to put in long long hours studying before the workshop. If it's not a good idea, why? I'm sure I must be missing some vital piece of information because it just hit me I could do this and it sounds so good I know I must be forgetting something!

No, you are not crazy, a lot of people do just that.

I think we had to be in the lobby of the hotel around 5:30 on Friday. CarePlan was well worth my money and as quick as you can go to CPNE from CarePlan the better you chances of passing. Good luck.

Hope you have better luck getting a testing date than I have. I finished in March and as quick as that study guide and forms came through UPS turned in all my fees and paperwork and I STILL can't get a testing date, only the runaround. MAY get a date for October. They won't commit to telling me a thing. Disappointed doesn't describe it.

Just wanted to say that I attended Chancellor's CPNE workshop in April and highly recommend it. With only 6 students per workshop and five full days, its really worth it. I learned tons, and made some great friends among the fellow students, as well as the instructors. No, I don't work for Chancellors, in fact, I live in Canada, so don't even live in the same country! Just count me as one satisfied student. I have heard the EC CPNE workshops are good too, just a lot more people per class, in a lot shorter time.

I know the long waits for the CPNE are frustrating. You can apply for the CPNE once you have all NC courses done, and less than 9 credits remaining for the non nursing courses, so that's what I have done. I still have two courses to do, but plan to do them between NC7 and my CPNE date. But never fear, one of my Chancellor classmates got on a cancellation list and it took less than a month. She did have only 2 days notice though. Oh well, the end is in site....you've lasted this long!

I have one adult psych class and the CPNE to go, just waiting for that package from Excelsior.

So, having been through the workshop yourself, is going to the CPNE Friday afternoon from the workshop (~ 3 hour drive) a do-able thing?

Personally I don't want a cancellation, I just want a date and to study straight through so I'm adequately prepared. No late-minute CPNE for me! I think I'd be doubly stressed if I tried that!

I guess it would be doable. Some of the students were finished their mock PCS's by Friday noon, and could have left the Chancellor's care plan lab if they wanted to. (Most stayed to observe and learn from other's mock PCS). Personally, I would book them at least a week apart, that way you still have the Care Plan lab fresh, and you would have time to practice those skills that need a little extra tweaking, and you may find you need to revise or change some of your critical elements after attending the Care Plan lab.

Do you know when your CPNE dates are in Ohio? I am attending the CPNE in Columbus October 6-8th.
