Chamberlain FNP Program February 2016 acceptance

Published

I have been accepted into the FNP program at Chamberlain and am looking for some insight into the program. What are the classes like? What books do you need? Anyone willing to send the syllabus for the first so I can get an idea of what is coming?

So excited!!!!!!

Hi!

I started Chamberain's FNP program in September 2015. I took the first class alone, as required, and doubled up the Nov/Dec semester. I am getting ready to start 2 classes for Jan/Feb as well. All of your e-book access is included in your tuition. I don't like e-books, so I have been using the "print on demand" option. For $16 each I get a nicely bound black and white soft back book. Well worth it to me! I work full-time as a hospice case manager. I also have an 11 year old and all his activities and horses and dogs and cats... whew! So far I have a 4.0. The classes are very well laid out and the electronic interface is very well done. I have been very impressed with the tools Chamberlain gives you to succeed. I never have to guess what is due when. It does take time, you have to stay on top of what is due when, and allocate substantial time to each class. I have given up TV and my weekends are not always spent doing what I want!! So far I am very pleased with the program. I have also found the financial aid and registration people more than helpful. So far no glitches with registering or paying. Overall I give the program thumbs up so far. Let me know if you have any further questions!!

Hi whynot,

Which 2 classes did you double up on?

@nightnurse08..

Question, are you working full time? Do you think this is doable even with doubling classes?

Also, do you know if the professors support Macs? Seems like everyone has macs now but just want to know if I need to buy word. (Although unthinking here is a way to save your documents as word doc on a Mac even without word program )

Hello, I just graduated from chamberlain (BSN) program in December. I used a MacBook Air the entire program and only had small issues. I had to downloaded google chrome to access some of the online classes because safari didn't seem to always be comparable when updates would come out. Also with pages on the Mac you are able to save things in a word document in order to submit them, but things that required power points I would send as a PDF because the MAC version did not always switch over well to the power point version. All in all my teachers on campus and online were able to open and grade all my assignments without an issue.

Hi Featherbrown,

I took Informatics and Nursing Theory together. This semester I am taking Health policy and Advanced Evidence Based Research. The first 5 classes are the same no matter what track you are taking. After that they specialize (FNP, Informatics, education etc). I should have noted in my post earlier that the classes (so far) are pretty heavily weighted on papers, and the discussion posts have to have sources and be cited in APA format. For me writing papers comes naturally, so that helped me balance everything.

Hi do you have any suggestions on how to find a clinical site? I am with Chamberlain and just completed NR 511 and now I had to take 8 weeks off because I cannot find a preceptor and the ones I did find the dean will not approve ugh! I love the school but now I am at the end and cannot find preceptors..do you have any tips?

Thanks!

Hey rpiper4922,

Did you join your state ENP network or spoke with someone within your organization that you work with? The ENP website provides a list of preceptors within your state that are willing to precept if you join. My nurse educator is helping me make contacts within my organization too since we have primary and family care practices across the city. I will PM you of a FB page I know as well, it provides a list of preceptors by state that may be useful. Just curious is your practicum coordinator trying to make any contacts on your behalf? I have heard mixed reviews about their assistance.
