Give me the good and bad of Chamberlain

Hey everyone,

I am thinking of applying to Chamberlain College of Nursing Online to do my RN-BSN and then on to my MSN. I have been reading reviews for this online college, however, most of them are at least 2 years old.

Please give me any up-to-date pros and cons you may know of, so I can add them to the list I have created so far. Please include, in your comment, if you actually attended the school or not.

Also, if there are any managers out there, do you consider a nurse with their BSN from this college to be trained well and at high standards?

Disclaimer: I am not a student at Chamberlain, I go to nursing school elsewhere.

I can tell you from the perspective of the hiring managers at my hospital, Chamberlain is not looked on favorably. Someone from a for-profit, "pay to play" university like Chamberlain or Keiser is not likely to get a job here.

I have not gone there, but I know several people who have since there's a small discount at my employer. It's very very expensive is the most common problem I hear. There are a ton of RN-BSN programs that are cheaper and non-profit, IMO.

Why don't you look into . They have an RN to MSN option & they are really cheap. Once I get my RN I'm gonna do that. Good luck!

I did also, and the pass/fail has not hurt me. Grand total was like 1/10th the cost of chamberlain. If you don't like that option, how about University of LA, Lafayette? brick and mortar, non profit, online, and around 10K. Also way less money and you don't have to worry about chamberlain's bad rep.

(And have good reputations, too, unlike Chamberlain ...)

Okay, so since it seems like Chamberlain may not have the best rep....which colleges do you suggest, instead? I feel lost in my research... :(

It depends on your city and the hospitals, however a big-named hospital system in Texas loves to hire Chamberlain nurses. The school is expensive however you get what you put into it. They have great student resources to make you a better nurse, it all depends on your effort. Don't think that you will fail as a nurse and never get a job because you went to Chamberlain, if you're a good student, you have as good of a chance as anyone else. Good luck!!

Try a brick and mortar university with an online program, if you prefer not to do the fully online non-profit schools like or Excelsior. You'll have a well respected 'real' college on your diploma and it will cost less than a for-profit school like Chamberlain. Just my .02. :)
