Chamberlain College of Nursing Houston Spring 2019

Published

Hi everyone, I am starting this forum to see if there is anyone else out there applying or has been accepted into Chamberlain. I initially applied to UT School of Nursing & as of now I'm not sure if I'll be accepted. But, since I'm so anxious to start nursing after being out of high school for 8 years I honestly don't want to wait any longer. There are advantages to Chamberlain for one it is close to home. I took my Hesi back in May I got a 92 I have a 3.8 GPA. Honestly for me I don't want to get an Associates in nursing and that's why I'm now looking at chamberlain. So far I have completed a lot of the pre requisites so I'll only need nursing classes. I don't want to take more courses or the TEAS to apply at another school so I'm going to try my luck here.

I called to make an appointment with an advisor, and I applied online. So basically, you fill out the application online, and then during the meeting the advisor will go over your application and submit it to the board. Learning styles or personality aren't really counted towards the grade. It's more of to see how you learn. But yes, I've taken the hesi before, last summer I believe. I did really well on it, but I never took biology or chemistry. So I'm kinda nervous about that too haha. I applied to UTHealth, but I've been waitlisted to that school so many times now. I've actually never heard of WGU. Is it any good? If you do plan on applying, did you finish all your non-nursing prerequisites?

Oh okay I started the application but I haven't submitted it. I'll do it tonight. I just recently applied to UT and I haven't heard anything back. I don't want to hold my breath on that so I want to have my plan b and c ready. Yes it's a good school I currently car for two children and there mom is a nursing recruiter and she's currently attending WGU. So it has to be good I'm going to talk to her tomorrow to see what other schools she recommends. Yes I pretty much got all the prereqs done. Well mostly everything that UT asked for.

I've done my research and WGU is a good nursing school. It just depends on how much help you would want, because since it's an online school, you're basically teaching yourself the materials. I'm more of the type of learner where I want to be able to discuss with the professor what I do and don't understand. It's all based on preference.

I went ahead and applied to UT, Chamberlain and WGU. Your right it all depends on the individual good thing I'm staying home right now with my baby so I think I'll be able to tackle online classes. I was also able to get my application fee waived for WGU and Chamberlain. Thanks for the heads up I was so happy to save money on the application fee.

Yeah no problem! I hope it all works out for you!

So I just spoke to the nursing recruiter that I currently babysit for and she said whatever you do to stay away from Chamberlain because recruiters don't want to hire them. So definitely stay away if you can. She said for some reason hospitals love WGU nurses and of course students that attend brick and mortar schools.

I also applied to UTHSC and TWU and was denied from both. I just submitted my application for Chamberlain and now am just waiting to hear back from an admissions rep. I don't know if there is a lot of truth behind hospitals not wanting to hire Chamberlain nurses, as I personally know someone who went to Chamberlain and had a job before graduation. I really don't want to wait another semester to start school since I have a degree in another field and want to start nursing as soon as I can, I might as well give it a shot.

Honestly, I think that it's a myth. I have a friend who just started her nurse residency program at Baylor CHI St. Luke's and she said that nurses love Chamberlain students, because they have so much clinical and hands on experience. Also, I have friends that recently just graduated from Chamberlain and have jobs at hospitals in the medical center. So, I honestly think that's it's a myth. If you do end up going to Chamberlain, I shall see you in January!

Yea your right I really don't know what to think because I've honestly never met anyone that has gone to Chamberlain. I guess it depends on who the recruiter is. Thanks for the helpful information.

Did you apply to UT for the Spring 2019 semester? I'm still waiting to hear back my account says under review still. I honestly don't feel like waiting another semester either. I applied to Chamberlain and WGU I like chamberlain because it's 5mins from my house but I like that WGU offers online courses and it's much cheaper. I shall see which one I decide to go with.

Yes I applied for spring 2019, my account says the same but at this point I'm thinking it's a denial. I wish they would update the portal so we're not sitting around waiting.

I know I hate not knowing and just waiting that's why I don't want to sit around and wait for them again. Especially if there's no way of actually knowing our chances of getting in.

Hello All,

I also got accepted to Chamberlain Houston Campus for Spring 2019 semester. For those who are wondering if Chamberlain is a good or legit school, the only thing that sets this school apart from UT and TWU is that Chamberlain is for-profit, hence, it'll be more expensive than the counterparts. My advice to anyone considering Chamberlain is to complete all pre-regs at a local community college before applying to Chamberlain, it will save you tons of money. I did exactly that and got all my credits transferred except for Chemistry as it's been over 10-years since I took it. My aunt graduated from the school last year and she got a job right away and she also stated that many of her classmates had job offers waiting for them upon graduating. So, if you think the school is a scam or not legit, you're only holding yourself back for another year waiting for public universities to 'consider' you for admission when the rest of us are already graduating. I would like to connect with those who will be starting the spring semester. Is there a Facebook page or something or a page where we can get to know ourselves. One of the advisers told me that the orientation will be in Dec 12th. Does anyone know about this?
