Chamberlain College of Nursing A good or Bad Education?

Published

I am considering Chamberlain College of Nursing, and I was wondering if anyone is a Grad from there. I love the fact you can get your BSN in 3 years, I am 33 and I have 2 kids to support I want to continue on to become a Nurse Practioner. I have heard the NCLEX pass rate is horrible at this school and then I also hear it's a pretty decent school it's new and a little disorganized but it's a decent school and you can pass the NCLEX just like every where else. I am really confused. I cannot afford to mess up. Can some seasoned nurses give me some good advice here and also if there are any Nurses who graduated from Chamberlain in St.Louis where I would attend how was it. I dont expect it to be the best Nursing school on earth I want a decent education and I am willing to work hard towards my degree. Thanks!

It is what you put into it. I graduated from that facility and have had no difficulties making it through my orientation. Passed boards on the first go around with 75 questions. Best of luck with your decision.

I attend Chamberlain now (taking a few pre-reqs) and I don't like it for the money. I think if you don't have any problems paying for the education then it may be okay. But, if you need financial assistance, they do not help you (or at least me) at all. The STL campus is inside of an older hospital so it's not the most convenient, per se. It is very small so the instructors really get to know their students and vice versa. The gen-eds are taught through Devry (if you attend evenings only, I think) and they are pretty easy, just expensive. So, I would get those done at a CC if you haven't already. I had roughly 70 credits and they only transferred 43 because they have "specific" courses. For instance, I took Interactive Psych and they want Intro to Psych. Like I said, if you will not have financial issues then it should not be a problem. I know a couple of graduates that really liked it.

I had looked at their website once, must have entered my demographics somewhere, b/c those people STILL call me!!!

I too am considering going to Chamberlain College of Nursing. I would be taking the Fast-Track RN-BSN program. If anyone knows anything about this exact program please let me know. It is expensive and financial aid will only help me with half of the cost. From what I see on the website it all sounds good and they definately have the accredidation you want in a nursing school.

I didn't particularly like the community college in AZ that I graduated from with my AAS in nursing last year. I think all programs have their pros and cons -- as with anything in life. I'm going to go for it and start in July. It's something I definately need because I cannot find a job to save my life here in AZ! The hospitals don't want new grads, and they want more experience than an associate's nurse with only 1 year. How's anyone supposed to get their feet wet in this profession?

I don't know anything about Chamberlain other than the exorbitant cost. Have you researched Northern Arizona University's RN-BSN program? It's online (mostly), it's vastly less expensive than the private RN-BSN programs in AZ, and it is an established state university with a good reputation.

Thank you! Actually I am in the process right now of applying also to NAU. I just wondered if one school was better than the other. My main concern was accredidation. I've heard that the Arizona Universities were having problems with maintaining their accredidation. I'm really looking into it, because Chamberlain is $22,000.00 for their 13 month Fast-Track RN-BSN program. I also just found out that Chamberlain used to be DeVry. I know they are a highly advertised private trade school (which all are pretty expensive compaired to community colleges and universities), I just don't know how great their program is. Thank you so much for your reply and help.

I'm curious, where did you hear that the AZ state universities are having problems maintaining their accreditation? It's the state universities that have the best reputations and NCLEX pass rates.

It was from a Kaplan employee. Kaplan by the way --- is a life saving, wonderful program. It too was pricey to take the NCLEX review, but w-a-y worth it! I had a baby right after graduation, and went into mommy-mode and Kaplan helped me get back up to par with my studying and really helped me go and pass the NCLEX. I just don't know who to trust and who not to. School shopping can get very complicated. I need something accredited and affordable... that's all. Thanks for all your feedback ; )
