CGFNS Visascreen and CES Processing Time Canadian RN

World International

Updated:   Published

I am wondering if any RNs have gone through the CGFNS Visascreen process recently. I am hoping to get an average for the processing times for Canadian nurses. I submitted all documents and had all my transcripts/documents from my university as well as licensing information, sent off right away, which was around July 15th. I also applied for a CES report for my Washington State nursing license.

Just curious if anyone can give me a heads up if this process is a couple of months or if I'm looking at more like 3 or 4 months.

I have already written my NCLEX exam in Canada, so really I am just waiting on CGFNS to process and issue the certificates.

Any additional info from anyone who has gone through this recently would be appreciated!

Hey Jenny,
I have questions about how you obtained your SSN while residing in Canada.
I am currently sending paperwork to CGFNS and am trying to figure out how the SSN process works. For some reason, I've been told you have to go to the USA to get it, but I saw a comment you wrote about how you were waiting for it in the mail.

Any advice would be helpful :).

Hi, you do have to get it once you're in the US.

How were you able to manage that with the border being closed since last March? To go to the states, apply and then come back and wait?

Hi,

you apply for the TN first, enter the US, and then you apply for your SSN. I hope that helps!

Hey @jennycrands

How long did it take for your certificate to come after you sent all your documents in and it said "received"? I'm hoping to apply for Travel Nursing jobs in Cali asap, and my recruiter said that I wouldn't be able to secure them until I get my VisaScreen completed.

Thanks!

Hey! If I'm remembering right, after it said "received,” it changed to "under review" and then "certificate issued,” which happened fairly quickly (I received it in the mail a few days after it said certificate issued). After all my documents were received, it was short, maybe a week, but I can't remember; I stopped counting days since it came together fast after my documents were all in. As long as all your documents are correct, no missing signatures, etc., then the review process is fast (at least in my case). Good luck! I hope yours comes quickly

Hi

I am also in the same process; I am wondering how did you apply to get the CES report; how do you pay for it?

You have to apply on the CGFNS website for the report. Make sure you choose the right one for the state that you're applying for! You can pay with a credit card on the website.

Thank you!

I am wondering if anyone applied for the GA RN license. It's so confusing. If you are licensed in Canada, do you apply for a license by endorsement, or do you apply for a new application?

Endorsement is usually used if you already have a US license. Most apply via license by examination and arrange for NCLEX results to be forwarded.

Hi everyone, hoping someone on this thread can answer my question regarding completing the Visa Screen AND CES

I'm in the process of trying to relocate from Toronto, Canada, to Colorado. I wrote my NCLEX and had been working as an RN in Canada for two years.

I understand that I have to complete the Visa Screen for immigration purposes, and it looks like on the CGFNS website that I also need to complete a CES. I have started the Visa Screen process, but just from what I've read about the CES, it seems like it requires similar documents to the Visa Screen so my question is, would I be sending in duplicate documents, or if I purchase a CES, the documents sent in for my Visa Screen will also be used to fulfill the requirements of the CES?

Thanks for your help!

Usually, CGFNS will use the same documents for both.
