Hello, I posted this question before but I did not get any answers. Are there any Chandler Gilbert community College students that are currently in the nursing program that can tell me if this is a good program or not?
In the past I read bad things about this particulat program and I want to know if it has gotten any better. Please any information will be greate. Also if you could share how your schedules are like.
Thank you!!

I thought that their program got shut down from the board of nursing.... If its not closed, it should be!

MassagetoRN, or pediRN2be, can you explain what is happening there. I was planning on choosing CGCC also, and am curious why the bad reputation.
Thanks

The CGCC program is NOT being shut down, nor is it in danger of being shut down. I actually accepted an advanced placement spot for Fall, starting 2 wks from tomorrow. I accepted the spot over offers from Gateway and Phx. I did my own research and asked a few people going into block 3 about the program. Honestly, the things they said were reasonable and pretty much can be found in any of the programs throughout the valley. Each school has its own pros and cons. I actually feel really good about choosing CGCC. One, it is MUCH closer to my home than Gateway (where I completed the LPN program), and I really liked the clinical site options. Also, the schedule is perfect for me as I also work full time. The complaints that I heard about CGCC were similar to some my fellow classmates had at Gateway. We actually lost 1/3 of our class 1st block. We also had a couple of people who were repeating block 2 that didn't pass 2nd go around either. Did I like every aspect of Gateway? No. But I got thru it. I figure, if I can survive what I went thru in that program (it was great...but VERY tough) I can get thru anything. I wouldn't rule it out.
Umm, I do know that at the last BON meeting, they were investingating CGCC's program. I have personally heard horror stories from students there. Call the nursing board.... Also, losing 1/3 of the class says something about the program, not the students. In my program at MCC, of 30 students, we lost none in Blocks 1 & 2, 2 students in 3, an none in 4......
I did call the board prior to accepting offer. I also read the 4/8/10 education comittee minutes. A few of the MCCD college applications were up for approval/renewal. SCC, PVCC, CGCC, and Glendale. Each had some sort of deficiency that is being looked at. In fact, CGCC was commended for a high pass rate. The potential deficiency was "Killeen noted that as a part of the Maricopa District Nursing system there are shared resources, some in areas which potential deficiencies exist." In contrast PVCC has a 56% pass rate in block 3 and only 27/40 graduated the program.
I too heard the horror stories and had crossed them off of my list. I got a call out of the blue offering me a spot and my first instinct was to say no. Ironically, I received offer from PC just 10 minutes prior to that. I was going to decline the CGCC offer immediately, but I decided to do some research and make an educated decision. I just don't want anyone to rule out something based on one side of the story. Are there issues? Probably, I am not naive. But there are issues with any program.
I know that my first semester at Gateway there were a lot of complaints especially about a specific teacher. This teacher was TOUGH and she expected you to know the material and them some. There were times I went home and cried because I didn't think I would make it through. I learned the most from this teacher and have the utmost respect for her. I know some specifically didn't want to go there for RN if she would be teaching any of the blocks. I would love to have her again, she challenged me and I am better for it. I know for a fact it was not program deficiency that we lost 11 people in our first block. We were given every opportunity to meet with faculty and get our grades up. They did whatever they could to help you, it was up to you to take the help.
When I start I will write and let everyone know what I experience.
Good luck to all!

pediRN2B...please keep us posted as you go through the program at CGCC. They are listed as my first choice simply because of location, but I, too, worry about all the negative comments about their program. As far as I see it, I know myself and my work and study habits and I intend on putting everything I can into whatever program I am accepted to. I would love to hear your impressions of the program as you progress through. Good luck!!
