CEUs for CA LVN (please help)

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi. I hope someone can help me. I tried looking up the info on the BVNPT board for Cali, but found little help. I also tried calling them, but they've disconnected the ext and when I try to dial a separate ext, the wait time is over 20 minutes. I'm sure someone here may know the answer.

I recently renewed my license and since it was the first time, I didn't have to have any CEU. However, I want to get a head start on my next renewal by taking some CEU courses now, so that I don't have to cram at the last minute.

The site says the classes can be "prerequisite to or part of a registered nursing program".

Sorry, if this sounds, dumb, but do you have to be accepted in the RN program? Or no?

How do you keep a record of the CEUs? Just by transcript? Or do you ask the school for some type of thing that shows it was for CEU? If so, do you get this ahead of time or after the course is over.

The site also talks about "Continuing education courses approved by nursing licensing agencies of this or of other states"

Are these nursing licensing agencies online companies? If so, where can I find these approved nursing licensing agencies?

I havent decided whether or not to pursue my RN yet, so these other courses provided by the nursing licensing agencies are very appealling and interesting to me. Here's some of those courses:

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) & Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Addiction

Aging

Anxiety

Autism

Behavior Management

Sorry for these dumb questions. Again, this is my first time dealing with CEUs. Any help is truly appreciated. :)

Hi, all I can tell you from a thread a while back is that there is a formula to calculate how college units for classes translate into CEUs for LVNs. Normally all you need on the form you send in to the BVNPT to verify your 30 hours is the Provider Number. It is a very confusing issue, though. A college level nursing course may not have a Provider Number.

I have not found the BVNPT very responsive at all when I've tried to contact them, either, but this is just one you will have to be persistent by writing to them or calling them repeatedly until you finally get someoene to help you out.

I found out a good way to get hours quickly if you are in a bind is through online courses like Western Schools. All the courses approved for RNs can be used to fulfill your LVN requirements. Best wishes- if I find that thread with the answers I'll post it back here.

thanks for your help.

On my first renewal that counted, I used the courses I was taking in RN school. I went to the office and they provided me with the formula (which I don't remember) and the school's provider number. It would be a lot easier just to send away for a course or do one online. There are many providers and the courses are inexpensive. Do an internet search and you should find a variety of providers to choose from.
