CEU business idea

Nurses Entrepreneurs

Published

In the past I had a provider approved (KSBN) program for RN/LPN's. I had several short programs on Alternative Modalities and a 100 hour Therapeutic Massage for Nurses progam. In Kansas CEU's are required for relicensure.

I am residing in Scottsdale Arizona and am going to start the classes again.

I have two questions that I would love some feedback on........

1) Do you think Nurses that are not required to have CEU's (Arizona does not require CEU's for relicensure) would be interested in affordable education?

2) Any ideas how to market to Nurses in this area?? (Kansas had a wonderful weekly newspaper that went out to all nurses in the state, that I advertised in. I have yet to find one here in AZ)

I would appreciate any feedback and ideas that might help me!!

Thanks all.

Two thoughts. Although operating in a state that does not require CEU's reduces your market somewhat, I'm going to guess that about half of all nurses maintain a specialty certification that does require CEU's. And two, those nurses will always be looking for something new and interesting, especially if it advances their professional practice. I know I do.

How does one go about getting approval /provider numbers from state boards or specialty groups?

Thanks

Re: specialty certification - I believe most have to have ceus that are approved by ANCC. Becoming a provider of CEUs (directly) thru ANCC is major pricey but if you check around different state boards of nursing - you can go thru them to get providership and it is around $1,000. Georgia Nurses Association is one to check with (800 324 0462 or [email protected])

I would suggest finding a state nursing board (it doesn't have to be your state) that requires CEU's for re-licensure and go through them for providership. There are several different ways to that depending on the board requirements. I choose single course providership for two years and renewed after that. It was much more affordable than going through a large organization and the boards are happy for the business.

There is a lot of paperwork and hoops to jump through, but it is worth it and once you do it, you have your template for renewal.

Good luck!!
