I just want to ask if english exam like IELTS or TOEFL is a requirement in CES. i already applied for CES and this matter bothers me, i dont have english exam yet,as far as i know when i fill out the online application it says that english exam is not applicable. but last night someone told me that english test is needed before the issuance of CES. is it true. ?
I also emailed the North Carolina Board of Nursing they said that english exam will only required if my nursing school is not taught in english. my question is how will they determine if my nursing school was taught in english.anyway my nursing school is located in philippines.do you think nursing school in philippines taught in english.I believe it is. what do you think?
anyone here who undergo CES already please share your experience about CES.thanks

CES is an evaluation of your transcripts and looking at their handbook there is nothing to indicate you need English exam. Some states do require English exam before they will let you sit NCLEX others don't. When they evaluate your transcripts they will be aware if your nurse schooling was done with English text books.

i had my CES done too and the state were im applying requires an english exam which will also be evaluated by CGFNS. in my case, the english exam is also included in the evaluation. so, i took the exam, submitted the result to them, and after a while they emailed me stating that they have already issued a report. im still waiting for my copy though, it hasn't arrived yet..but from what i read from the CES is that the english exam will only be evaluated if the state board of nursing requires the applicant to have one.
goodluck with your application, God bless!

Hello,
I am also planning to apply to NJ BON after I passed my NCLEX from Saipan BON. Is TOEFL the only test acceptable for NJ?
i'm applying for NJ too..i took the IELTS last august..the CGFNS accepted it so i guess it's ok, but if the NJBON says otherwise then, i'll just take the TOEFL..anyway i can still use my IELTS in the other countries where i'm also applying...
Goodluck with your exam!! hope we all make it to NJ!!

If your State BON will waive the English exam req't and they only need the CES from CGFNS then you will not be required by the CES.
The new req'ts for the CES program indicated on their handbook does not even mention the English exam req't as Anna pointed out but will leave it it up to the State BON to say if they require one per their own policy.
The applicant may also choose to send the English req't to CES instead and be part of the CES report or send it directly to the Boards (this scenario depends on the Board) if one is obliged by their State BON to complete an English exam req't. Their is really no difference if it is sent to CES or sent directly, does not matter really.
However, it is true that most Boards do waive the English proficiency exam if it were all taught in English and they pretty much know already w/c foreign country does that and w/c do not.
So, if one's English Prof. exam req't was successfully waived by their respective Board then it is definite that CGFNS will not require that for their CES program; they are not even mentioning it anymore on their handbook as mentioned. However, there is really no escaping doing an English Proficiency Exam since this is a mandatory req't for the Visa Screen Certification.

The one that gave you that information was using the old information. Before it is part of the CES, now it is not. That is why everyone should always check the current information on their State BON's website or in the case of CGFNS, their current handbook w/c explains everything and w/c they update yearly.
Will just provide this link for completion of information:
http://www.cgfns.org/files/pdf/req/ces-requirements.pdf
As you can read from the above link, an English prof. exam is only req'd if the State BON to w/c they will send the CES report requires it and if so, the applicant must only send in the preferred English exam the State BON wants. If the Boards wants just a TSE then that's what you give, if they specifically say they only want the TOEFL with this particular scores then that's what you give as well. If one is waived then you don't have to give anything as all.
