Come on, how did it go?

anyway, I hadn't seen you around much, and wanted to see how things are going for you.

Sorry about the delay. I am wrapping up the last sem of my BSN program and I had another child deliverd on friday. (another girl) that makes two. I am getting out numbered.
So I arrived in philly two days before my interview. (remember I am the guy that wanted to apply to 37 schools) Just to make sure I could get there without a hitch. The night before I didn't sleep at all. or at least not much. I kept thinking of questions I could ask. I wrote them down on a yellow pad all night. I arrived to hospital an hour early and milled around checking out the joint.
now the meet> my first interview was with the director. Art Zwerling. very pleasent fellow. the interview was informal and relaxing. I was asking so many questions he couldn't get a word in edge wise. He did ask me about the unit I currently work in an the experinces I had. (one thing that helped I think= I have been so intrested in anesthesia. I have followed CRNA's in the OR and I am always asking them questions when I see them so I was able to use jargin specific to trade ie. vec, double lumen tubes, propofol ect. not real techiquical stuff but things that show I am intrested and am curious about the trade)
After my interview with him. he called a current student to come and get me. the student took me to change into some scrubs ( I drillded this guy too. everything from how many of what kind of cases and lines he had been doing to the relationships between MDA's and surgeons) he took me to the OR where I met the Assistant director and the clinical cordinator each indivdually came out of the OR (relived by the student I was with and took me into a room to get to know me) each was very pleasent the student handed them my file and they went over it as they spoke. the were very intruiged as to why I would want to come clear to philly from slc for school. I told them that I wanted to go a state where CRNA's are strong. which is true. the professional assoscitioin there is astounding. the hardest question I had to answer was this. YOU LOOK GREAT ON PAPER, BUT THEY ALL DO. WE GET 200 APPLICANTS THAT LOOK JUST LIKE YOU SO WHY SHOULD WE CHOOSE YOU? good question hu? that what I thougt. I said " on pure desire, If you could measure my desire to do this, which you can't you would know that I want to do this more than anyone". which is true. I also made a point of telling everyone that I had made a personal pledge not to work. and that If I am gonna take my family 2000 miles away from home I do not want to be bothered by bills and work. I will take student loans as necessary. ( I never have taked a student loan so I figure I have room for debt. lol)
Also I purchased a brand new suit (two acutally) one I wore on the plane to get into the mind set of success. the other more concerative. (charcole, white shirt, red tie {for power} and new shoes).
I then came back to the directors office and he treated me to lunch. I did try a soft pretzel. he hinted at the end that I would probably be accepted and last thursday I recived the offical letter in the mail. yeee haaaa.
I had not yet posted any of this becuase I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not but I think this is the most appropriate place. I was very impressed by the school they are very strong clinically. every week on the their " Ortho day" the students do all of the regional blocks. the student I followed said he had placed several IJ's, Sub clavian, Swan floats, art lines radial and pedal. I do have a few apps still out there and I want to make sure I make an informed decision. also I need to feel just a littel bit better about living in philly. but hell you can do anything for 27 months right?
I am not a "pinoy" I served an LDS mission on the phillipines in Cabanatuan, Tarlac, Zaragoza, Mayantoc and Munoz. two years. matt :hatparty:

by the way, you know how prospective students are always seeking info about schools and whats good and what they can do to prepare.
I credit this BB to 85% of the info and prepartion I have gotten.

    Great Job Matt and congrats!
I know you will do a great job! How is your new baby? Beautiful? How 'bout a picture?
I'm glad you decided to accept this offer. It is a great opportunity!
    Good Luck!

Congrats Matt. I know you will probably have some other schools call you for interveiws and I suggest you go to them and check out the other schools and compare. That way when you feel down or stressed you won't be questioning your decision later down the road.

I don't know Art personally except by email and I feel he treats his students very well and thats a very good program there in Philly.

Again, I know the great feeling of getting that acceptance, congrats!!!

First, congradulations! Your hard work in preparing for applying to schools and preparing for your interview has certainly paid off. You have a long road ahead of you, but I think you will find a great deal of fun in there, as well.

Next: TWO suits? Arrived TWO days early?? LOL, bud, you MUST have been in the military. That's the only place I know that drills this kind of anal attitude about preparing into people. Seriously, that kind of attitude will serve you well in anesthesia, so long as you can remember to be flexible.

Again, congrats. Believe me, there are going to be long nights, long days, hours and hours in front of books, and you are going to wonder "is it all worth it?" At those times, remember, I told you: YES, IT IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!

    Congratulations and Good work.

I have to agree with you. Besides shadowing a CRNA, this BBS was the most helpful thing I found for preparing for school.

Congrats Matt (new addition to your fam and school)--thanks for the play by play. I hope to have that feeling of acceptance very soon. No interview yet---hopefully I will get an early christmas present, but your advice and nilepocs have been added to my "tips" files. Good luck and keep us posted of the progression.

    Hey Matt,

Congrats on these two great events in your life. I agree with Gowkout, now you'll probably be accepted to several other programs and the only problem you'll have then is deciding where to attend.
Piece of advice from a current student : Spend lots of time enjoying the new familly addition now!!
