Help! Need to find a Biochem/OChem course

Hey guys!

I am hoping for a miracle at this point. I have spent the last 7 HOURS trying to find an online biochem or OChem course that does NOT have a lab and is affordable. Seems like the only thing I can find is upwards of 1000 dollars. I need one of them, it can be a introductory course, for CRNA school and have to get it finished this year in order to attend school. I anybody has had any luck with this please let me know. I would like the course to be under $500 or so.

In the same boat here, actually. The schools I'm applying to, for the most part, don't require O-chem. There is one school that im thinking about that does, but at this stage of the game, I'm wondering whether it's worth it to spend the money and take away time from work for a class I may not even need.

I don't know that you're gonna find anything online for under $1000, to be honest. UNE and Oregon State both seem to be good options, but like you said, expensive. Is an in-person class, perhaps in the evening, an option for you? It may not be very convenient, but if you can make it work for just a few months, you'll save some $$$. Plus, organic chemistry seems like one of those classes that is always better taught in person if you have that option.

I am actually relocating and the schools where I am moving don't have (from what I can find) what I am looking for. There is one in the state I am living at now, but I'll be leaving before the semesters up or I would just take it in person. I, however spent another 5 hours last night looking up programs and I have actually found a couple options. If your interested you might look into UC San Diego extension. They have chemistry classes. Theirs was $575. I also found that at Easter Iowa community college, it's about the same price, except they have a lab with theirs. Looking over the syllabus it seems very simple though, nothing like General chem. I also heard about a website called nursingabc.com that offers science classes for nurses for college credit. They are about $400, but they only have an into to Chem. I'd make sure they'd accept that class first before taking anything there.

Everything else I found had very expensive tuition.

Oh, nice! I was looking into UC Berkeley Extension since I'm living in the area for the foreseeable future, but they're $1085. I came to California as a travel nurse (sounds like you may be one as well?) and ended up recently taking a full time job until I eventually start school, so I'll be staying put for now.

I looked on the UCSD Extension website, but I couldn't find anything for Organic Chem. I found an Intro to Biochemistry class, but that was the closest. Do you have a link you could share?

Yes I have been doing some traveling, but I as well will be settling down and getting a full time position until I start school.

I think it was a biochemistry class and the San Diego extension. I have been looking into both options so I think I may have mixed it up. They may let you substitute biochem for your OChem requirement.

check this out, I hope it would help you (this in search for NC colleges, each state should have the same search) I remember last summer looking at school in New mexico - out of state tuitions was around $175 - 200 (sorry I do not remember the name, but you will find it if interested )

I just finished a 12 week online intro to o-chem/biochem course through Iowa Central Community College yesterday. It's 3 credit hours and has no lab, and the class consisted of 2 short essays, roughly 9 quizzes, and 4 exams. I'm out of state, and I think I paid around $700. All but a few of the students were taking the course as a CRNA school pre-requisite. The only due date I had was 8/20 at 11:59pm for all my assignments, but I think they are changing it from their 'flex net' courses to something more structured with their assignment due dates (but don't quote me on that).

Can you tell me how much math is in that course and the difficulty. I am just wondering if it's doable this semester. I am working 4-5 days a week and will be moving in a couple months so I don't want to overwhelm myself.

The math wasn't that bad. I rented the textbook from the school and watched some Khan Academy videos since it's been a while since I've taken any chemistry. I remember my gen chem courses being much more math heavy than this one was. This one was a lot more about naming/drawing structures of molecules than doing math.
