Need help. Has anyone taken the CPN Exam lately? If so how did you study for it? What did you study for it? I'm looking for some one to come to my hospital to do a review. I would like a one or two day review. If anyone could help it would be great. Feel free to pass on my e-mail to anyone who might be able to help. I'm located in Louisville, Kentucky.
Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by wanting someone to come to your hospital to do a review. The PNCB will do onsite testing but as far as I know niether they or anyone else offers a formal review seminar or course.
Previously when I was planning to take the exam I relied on the materials recommended on the PNBC site. I never followed through and just recently started looking into it again. The recommended reading list hasn't changed significantly and they have added a content outline that looks helpful.

Hi PEDSICU,
I'm from "the ville" living in Dayton, OH. Here's a little info to help you. The "Society of Pediatric Nurses" is having a conference in Orlando, FL the first week of April. The 1st two days are considered preconference workshop days. (Apr 5-6) At this time they will be giving a 2 day seminar on Certification Preparation from 8am-5pm both days. May be a good time to take a vacation. you can download the brochure and get all the info at www.pedsnurses.org Also they will administer the exam as well on the 9th after the main conference. Hope this helps. Rick

It's for RNs who have a minimal number of hours in pediatrics- basically equivalent to full time for 2 years or part time for 4 years. It is a bonus landing a job in some hospitals and some hospitals do pay more to nurses who are certfied in their specialty. (my hospital won't even reimburse me for the cost of the test)
Like Rick, the onbly review I know of is the one at the SPN conference. The conference is well worth going to in my opinion, although I've never been to one somewhere "fun" like Orlando! (obviously this year's has passed, but for future reference)

Has anyone taken the Certified Pediatric Nurse exam and can help me find out what to study?? The website for the exam only offers a list of entire books to read, such as Wong and Harriet Lane but rather vague topics to study? I dont know that there is a study guide or book to help with passing the test, besides just studying everything.
please help!
When I studied for the exam I used my (out of date) peds text book for the growth and development. I also read and re-read (the previous versions) of:
Lippincott's Review Series: Pediatric Nursing, 4th Edition (2004). Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. Author: Mary E. Muscari. ISBN: 1582553419.
Mosby's Pediatric Nursing Reference, 5th Edition (2003). Mosby, Inc. Authors: Betz, C. L. & Sowden, L.A. ISBN: 0-323-01979-X.
Both of which I got brand new for a fraction of retail on half.com.That would also be a good source for a peds text book if you don't have one, it is going to be your best source of growth & development information and wouldn't need to be terribly up to date.
peds121, OK heres the info you need. I the went to the certification prep course "cold turkey" no prior studying. It was two days. I then studied for 2 days and passed! The company that put on the prep course in Orlando was Nurse Builders. They are very squared away, and very professional. Thier products for test study are easy to read and follow. They have a website that I recommend to anyone considering certification. On this site, they have products such as flash cards and cert prep courses upcoming, possibly in your area. Anyway, thier study material is good and helps you study the specific areas needed. Here's the site, Good Luck in your endeavors
