I've already passed my CNA exam and submitted the initial CNA application to the Maryland Board Of Nursing. I'm currently awaiting for them to process and approve my application, which, I'm sure all types of nurses know, can take a very long time before you get any response from them. During this stage, can I accept employment working as a CNA? For, example, I'm submitting an online application to be a pediatric care assistant and the application has a box to input you registration number (or i.d. number) and the expiration date. I obviously do not have this information at the moment. How do I go about this situation with the employer?

You are not a CNA until you are approved by the state, otherwise you are a NA who passed the test. You can apply and put certification # pending.

Can't really comment too much on the legalities in MD; here in CA you can start applying the minute you successfully complete the class. Took CA DPH about 45 days to get my cert to me when I finished Red Cross training. Obviously having the certificate # in hand'll make it a bit easier to get hired but it never hurts to apply. As already stated, you can usually put "IP" or something in the box for the certificate number.
