Cerritos nursing program 2010

Has anyone taken teas test at Cerritos college?

i heared that there's another lottery after teas test; it's driving me crazy to wait the another letter from them....

I've already sent my teas score that i got in the past.... so i wonder if they gave u any new info after teas test.

i want to hear anything from anyone who took the teas at the Cerritos college. please let me know :)

I would just follow up and see if they received the score, and ask when the acceptance letters would be sent out.

btw, what was the class listed on the paper your proctor handed you?

The proctor handed me a paper after I passed the test. Course#20842 Summer session, Wed/Thur 9-12PM Removing Barriers to Success in Nursing. She told me specifically that I would be drawn for either the Fall or Spring, if I get into the Fall program, I would have to take this in Summer, and if I get selected for the Spring, I would have to take this class in Fall. She sounded like she knew people who passed the test would be in either Fall or Spring. I hope that's the case, I don't want to be on the alternate list. haha!

Thanks for the info Apgar10, I don't mind waiting a semester, I can take the Pharmacology class in the Fall and prepare myself.

OK- random question- I just sent over my TEAS scores, because I took it for goldenwest a week earlier, so I did not get any notice from them regarding orientation. I passed the TEAS with an 86%, so should I call or email the office about orientation???? or do you think that they will let me know??? I dont want to be a pest but I dont want to miss out on something important like orientation!!

I would call after a week and confirm it was received, rather than call now telling them to look for it to come. They get pretty familiar with the names they come across as they put together paperwork.

Well yeah, you'd either be drawn for Fall or Spring because those are the only options ;)

Here's the info for that class:

Removing Barriers to Success in Nursing - NRSG 5 -01 (20842)

Prerequisite: Acceptance to the Cerritos College Nursing Program pending remediation.

Recommendation: Achievement of a score below benchmark on the diagnostic assessment test.

This course is designed to facilitate the success of students pursuing entry into a nursing program who did not reach the benchmark score on the diagnostic assessment test. The aim of the course is to aid students in identifying and strengthening areas needed in academic preparation for a nursing program, as well as to develop critical thinking and study skills essential to success. Resources available to facilitate student success will be identified and explored. This course is offered on a pass/no pass basis only. This course may be taken a maximum of 3 times.

Hi, Apgar! I'm a little confused about the class (NRSG 5) the proctor discussed. Is this for people who did not pass the TEAS--and they need to remediate--or a class required for the program?

Specializes in Emergency Department.

It isn't a class required for the program all of the people in my class passed the TEAS with me so I don't know anyone who took NRSG 5.

I know the wait is agonizing! The nice thing is when get in all you need to worry about is staying in ;)

Hi Apgar10,

Do the school only offer classes in Fall and Spring? so you wouldn't be able to take classes in winter or summer just to get some classes out of the way? or finish early?

Hi Apgar10,

Yes the core classes required to graduate are only during the Fall and Spring semesters (with the exception of pharmacology). The other classes are "icing on the cake" type classes for documentation, communication, skills/scenario practice for current and transferring students, LVNs joining in the 3rd semester, remediation, etc. Your instructor will advise you on the summer classes that would be best for you.

FYI there is no guarantee when you enter with your class you will finish with your class either so don't be in a hurry to finish  Some students may have to repeat courses which means you have to wait until the next semester and start again with that class and continue from there. Some of our class didn't make it past the first 9 weeks, some won't make it past this second 9 weeks. They will start again in the Fall with whatever core class they didn't make it in. Our program is big on success. They don't give up on you easily! :redbeathe

Hi, Apgar~

So, in your opinion. . .even for those students who have a hard time the first sememster. . .Cerritos lets them take the classes over and don't "kick them out" like some other schools do?

Depends how hard their hard time is ;) There are open skills lab hours all through the week and Saturdays, tutors, mentors, etc. They really pull out all the stops to help you succeed.

Thanks, Apgar! What do you think of the faculty? This is a huge deciding factor for me. So many of the other schools I applied to have instructors who are really mean and don't want to help you. I want to go to a school where I know the teachers are on the students' side and want to help them understand everything.

I think my two previous answers cover how good the school and instructors are ;)
