I believe if you pass the TEAS test, then they will put you in the lottery for either the Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 class. After the TEAS test, the proctor actually gave us a paper w/ information for a class we need to take for either the summer or Fall. Right now, all we can do is wait patiently.
thanks for your reply !!
what kinds of classes were on the paper? are they recommended classes to be prepared for nursing program?
please let me know:uhoh3:
Yes, it's one class only. I believe the class just prepares you for the nursing program. I don't know how long it is, I guess I will call them and ask if I am in for the Fall program.=)

Last year if you got the initial letter saying you needed to take the TEAS test, it meant you made the lottery cut for "possible admission" for Fall '09 or Spring '10. Then you needed to take the TEAS test and pass it with at least 68%. As you checked out, the proctor would hand you a letter with suggestion of remediation and invitation to try again next year if you didn't pass or a notice of the combined class orientation that would be a month or so later if you did pass.
They take a LOT for the lottery because they expect that many won't qualify past the TEAS test. By orientation they expect that all the other SoCal colleges will have sent out their letters of acceptance so there will be many who don't end up at Cerritos by choice. So, when you go to orientation you'll see a list of the Fall class, plus alternates and a list of the Spring class, plus alternates. There will be no-shows to the orientation and they will lose their spot and they will pick alternates right then. When I went for that orientation five were picked, but not enough for me to make it for that class. I was in the Spring class and at our orientation, 10-15 were picked because there were that many no-shows! One gal in our class was notified the night before lectures started.
It's a really great program, so good luck! The first semester will kick your butt. We have a week left of full clinical and lecture, followed by finals week. I can hardly wait to sleep!
ps: Don't bother calling to ask your chances of getting into either semester because of my explanation there about no-shows, etc. They will explain they don't have a crystal ball :)
thank you so much for sharing your experience, Apgar!
it helpes me a lot to hear your precious advice.:)
so, you're already in the program ! im so happy for you !!
do you already have clinics though? can i ask you where the places are?
good luck with your finals and clinics !! take some vitamins!
tokidokifantasy, thanks for letting me know :)
i think im going to call them on Monday to ask when they're going to send the second letters:uhoh3:
i'll let you know if i get some info ! have a nice weekend!

You start off with a class called Theory and one called Fundamentals (test every Monday) and learn basic skills and scenarios for about 5 weeks, then you go to a long-term care facility for about 4 weeks. Then those who pass the final and clinical move on to the 2nd 9-week block where we do Med-Surg 1. Those who need pharmacology have to take it during this period too (so do it in advance if you don't want to be stressed with an extra test schedule). We are at a few places like Downey Regional, Kaiser, Whittier Community, Lakewood. It varies. The paperwork in the second block is massive and your sleep is precious! There is a Care Plan, a sexuality paper, and a teaching paper to do in the second half. At this point all we have left is two more Med-Surg tests and those in pharm have a final. .
Hi Apgar10,
do you know what happens to those people that are on the alternate list and don't get pick for the either semester? Do their applications just automatically roll over to the next applicaton acceptance date?
And when you said that the Pharmacology should be taken prior to the med surg course, do you mean that you can take it a semester before or during summer? I thought the classes we take for each semster is pre planned for us?
thanks!
I think you'll have to apply again because they don't assume you're still interested or haven't gone on somewhere else.
The nursing core classes are selected for you. Pharmacology isn't a core per se, but is a program requirement. So, some of us have done it elsewhere and had it transferred and are just auditing it as a refresher. Others never took it and are taking it now. You can also do the Physical Assessment class in advance and if you, you get to skip out on the evaluation during the Fundamentals because you already took that portion. Just a little stress relief. Get both out of the way in advance if you want... or not. It's up to you. The summer classes might already be full.
btw, what was the class listed on the paper your proctor handed you?

OK- random question- I just sent over my TEAS scores, because I took it for goldenwest a week earlier, so I did not get any notice from them regarding orientation. I passed the TEAS with an 86%, so should I call or email the office about orientation???? or do you think that they will let me know??? I dont want to be a pest but I dont want to miss out on something important like orientation!!
