hello,
i have been doing my research online about how to get my aa in nursing, and i noticed several people saying that it is really difficult to get accepted. what are the requirements, and how long is the wait? i heard that you can get on the waiting list while you are in school, but i do not know if that is true. i would think you need to finish your general ed and prerequisites first in order first in order to submit the application. does anyone have an idea about any of these questions? please!! please!! please!!! i am so excited to become a nurse, and i am willing to wait, but i just want to be sure about what i am getting into.
Apgar10 thank you for your reply. I will definitely do as you suggested apply and go where i get accepted.
How is it going with you and the nursing program in Cerritos? Have you read any other posts where other nurses say that after graduating and landing a job they cry every day, due to stress...... That makes me nervous, but I think it might be just the first year, at least until you get used to the system.
Anyhow, currently I work as a paralegal and most of our clients are Kenyans & nurses and eventhough they say its stressful, they also tell me its a very rewarding job.
Apgar10- Thank you for your reply to everyone's questions regarding the program.
I just got intoi Cerritos for Fall 2011 and am very excited to started. I know you mentioned about the program and that class are in the morning and then you have clinicals either AM/PM or weekends.
Can you please tell me about what time the classes and clinical start and end if I chose the AM clinical?
I'm trying to arrange for child care. Also, how much time outside of class to you spend in preparing/studying while in the program?
Thanks:)

In the first semester you don't get a choice. Your lectures are on Monday (12:30-3:00p) and Thursday (9am to 11-ish, 12:30-3:00p) and clinical T/W from about 7am to 2pm. Second semester the lectures are the same, but now there is a night shift and weekend option for clinical in addition to morning. People with kids and jobs get priority over the shifts they choose.

I have no idea :) Depends what the subject is...
Apgar10- Thanks so much for the useful information!Hope to meet you in person in the Fall. What is your name?
Our paths will probably never meet due to the schedule we keep. I go to clinical M/T and lecture W/Th. Our lectures are in different buildings and you all in the first semester will be so focused on what you're learning you won't even notice us Fourth semester students aren't on campus much past the first quarter because we take off and go to preceptorships, then graduate in the first week of December.
Hello everyone. I applied to Rio Hondo College and to Cerritos. Cerritos being my first choice, but will go to RHC without a doubt. I was wondering how long will it take to receive a letter in the mail from Cerritos College if I just applied on March 15th? I'm going to accept RHC nursing, but if I get into Cerritos I would probably pull out and accept Cerritos. I'm scheduled to attend the Summer session there which is in June. I am taking my TEAS test on April 6 which was the date RHC gave me, but still waiting for Cerritos, but it will be pushing it kind of close. Apgar10, Congrats on you and how well your doing there also I love how you answer everyone's questions!!!

IMHO, go the route you get accepted for... a large majority of students currently in the program have most, if not all of the co-/pre-requisites required for the BSN programs and took the ADN route because that is where we got in first. I think the majority of students I know plan to hop into an RN-BSN program as soon as we get licensed to qualify for one. If I hadn't gotten into Cerritos (which was the last application I filed that season), I would've applied to the CSUF programs and kept applying at the ADN schools to increase my chances of getting in *anywhere*.
