Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Hi patgon23, I took the cna course with the American Red Cross in Commerce, CA. I paid $1,400.00 (they gave me 2 uniforms, books, stethoscope, and spygmomanometer). I took the class with ------, she was great. She went way beyond the CNA teaching, she tought us alot of LVN duties, and during clinincals, we got to experience LVN duties such as observe treatment for elderly with horrible bed sores, while in isolation room. I passed my state exam:). It was a great feeling. I wish you luck.

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Hi Savnlivz: I will give Downey Adult School another try this year to see if I can make it to the LVN program starting in January 2012. I wanted to ask you, since I know that you are halfway done with the LVN program, how do you like it? Are you glad you went this route or do you wish, you could have done something differently? Is the pre-vn class (a cna class)? the reason I ask is because I took the cna class and I already have my license, so im wondering if I have to take the pre-vn if I pass their entrance exam? Please tell me all about your experience. I am eager to know all about it. mariatere

Hi, what school do you go to? I am looking for a good LVN school in southern california. Good Luck with your decision, but I would probably overlap and finish the LVN program.

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Thank you LilMy for taking the time to respond. Good Luck with the program. I have a question. Has any student ever gotten sick during clinicals that you have seen? How do you survive this wonderful world, especially when you have never been exposed to it (ex: poop, pee, vomit, etc). I would appreaciate any replies. I am scared that i will run out of a room, or that I will become one more patient . Thanks

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Hi MissCre, I want to know what happens in the pre-vn course (i think i was told it last 5 weeks, right?). I will be taking the exam on the 17 of March with my sister. I have been actively going to school and not worried about the basic math and basic english test, but my sister has not gone to school since she graduated from high school in 1999. Can you give me an idea on the english and mathe exam. Is it multiple choice, do you have to write an essay, in the math are we allow calculators, what kind of math, are there any fractions? I want to help her study so she does good and gets invited to the pre-vn program. Thanks in advance

starting LPN program in Aug 2011..anyone else?
Hi. I want to try cna course before i enter the rn/bsn. I am so afraid to become another patient. I fear that I will not be able to handle vomit or the smell of poop. I have no kids and no training like my sisters. I love nursing but those 2 things are stoping me from entering this beautiful world. My friends tell me that I will get used to it. Have you ever, yourself, or seen anybody else run out of a patients room for what I just mentioned?

Anyone have any experiences with Downey Adult School in OC ?
Hi LilMy, I was considering the LVN program from downey adult school starting in May 2011. I have a few questions for you since you graduated from that school. I want to know, where do you do your clinicals? How soon after finishing the program do you take the state exam? and how soon after can you start working? How do you like this LVN career? Thanks

Cerritos College: Getting into Nursing Program
Apgar10 thank you for your reply. I will definitely do as you suggested apply and go where i get accepted. How is it going with you and the nursing program in Cerritos? Have you read any other posts where other nurses say that after graduating and landing a job they cry every day, due to stress...... That makes me nervous, but I think it might be just the first year, at least until you get used to the system. Anyhow, currently I work as a paralegal and most of our clients are Kenyans & nurses and eventhough they say its stressful, they also tell me its a very rewarding job.

Cerritos College: Getting into Nursing Program
Hi NkyNurse95, I am lost in this world of nursing. I want to tell you alittle about myself before asking my question. I have been a paralegal for the last 11 years (im 32 years old) I am married but no kids. I tell my husband that nursing has always been appealing to me, but the only 3 things that stops me is my fear of 1)vomit 2)smell of poop(I have no children and when my nieces diaper had to be changed, i gagged like there was no tommorow), 3) I have a hearing problem on my right ear (i use no hearing aid, I can hear, as long as u dont wisper or you are not so soft spoken when standing on my right side). I have done some research and know that there are some stetoscopes for the hard hearing folks out there. I am schedule to start volunteering in a local hospital in downey,ca (im hoping this will help me with some of my fears) I am also enrolling myself in a cna course so that i can gain some experience and hopefully a part time job that will allow me to train as im in school. This semester, I should be finised with my science pre requisites to enter the nursing program. My question is that I have the chance of applying for the ADN program in Cerritos and also the BSN program in Cal State Fullerton, since im a student at both schools. What route do i take? BSN or ADN? I want to start a family, hoping that by my 35th birthday, I can start working on that. My husband is very supportive. He tells me that if I really want to do this, now is the time. He is willing to take full responsability for our support so that i can quit my job, and I can conquer my dream. Please, any advise from any of you would be greatly appreciated. Mariatere

Cerritos College: Getting into Nursing Program
Hi Apgar10, I have a question in regards to the nursing program. I know you said that you are assigned a Mentor and to work with him/her. My question is once in the nursing program do you get assigned a number of units/ classes and do you go to school fulltime all day only or evening classes? How does it work? Thanks

Best jobs while in Nursing School?
Hi, I was actually thinking about this type of job while in nursing school. The one thing that worries me is the 7pm-7am shift? when do you sleep? There is a local hospital where I live that after volunteering for some time they will allow me to do the nurse asst tech job from 7pm to 7am but I'm afraid that I will fall asleep during class. what to do?

Cerritos College: Getting into Nursing Program
Hi Apgar10, I am currently taking some of the pre-requisites for the nursing program in Cerritos College. I have 3 more to go, and hoping to be finised by the spring of 2011. I will be applying into the nursing program in March of 2011. If i apply in March 2011, when does the nursing program begin, will it be fall 2011 or Spring of 2012. Also, I wanted to ask you since I see that you started the nursing program in the spring of 2010. How is it? How do you like it? What advise can you give me, to begin preparing for this new challege in my life? Thanks
