Im wanting to do the CEP and im wondering what schools you chose and why?

If you are in it now are you happy with your choice?

Thank you. Any other advice welcome.

AZBlueBell -

Your post was really interesting! For the record, Ottawa arranges its semesters in the same way - it is broken up into 2 terms, each 8 weeks, with a total of 12 credits per semester. I personally really like this, but then again I'm only at the start and haven't experienced the same as you with the summer and no breaks etc.

I didn't choose NAU and ASU for the exact same reasons as you. The other two offerings beyond UIU and OU, as far as I understand it, didn't use the financial aid consortium so that ruled those two out for me.

Thank you so much for your insight AZBlueBell!! I know the "full-time job" class you were referring to, I take it next. I chose to familiarize myself with their online format by taking an elective first. I am mentally preparing for the intense class after all the opinions I have heard about it. Thank you for the heads up about the lack of breaks. I guess I assumed there would be little breaks here and there. I knew the program ran a little longer than a few other schools, but I am okay with that. I'll still have my RN at the same time as my classmates, and should hopefully be able to start working while wrapping up those last few credits. Good luck finishing up your program! I can't wait until I can say I am where you are now!!

You're not alone!! - my understanding from looking at my workload is that the only break I'll get each year is a couple of weeks at Christmas between Fall and Spring break, otherwise it is full-on all year round, summer included. I think it's the only way they can fit all the classes into the timeframe because obviously when we're in college (community college) taking 9 credits a semester, we couldn't possibly carry an additional 12 with the online school! Anyway - rest assured Ottawa is the same, and I'm sure if we got feedback from the other Unis you'd get a similar picture too!

It will go faster than you imagine! I can't believe I'm in block 4 already. I'm most definitely going to look for jobs after graduating, also know that UIU recommends we don't get a job until we're done eh capstone because those classes are a lot of work they say as well. But, that's unrealistic to me. I cannot delay getting a job until 6 months after I graduate, I will be losing precious time between school and applying it to practice. So I've already come to the conclusion that if I need to separate their final courses to keep sane with a new job, I'll do it.

Like I said, big picture wise I've been happy with UIU. Good luck to you :)

I'm just going to ditto everything AZBlueBell said. I'm happy to have finished the RN program a semester early, and UIU was willing to let me push one course back to focus on the end of block 4/NCLEX. They are very understanding and accommodating to their students.

Which class do you have that is the "full time job"??

So have you graduated already? How did you manage to graduate early? (awesome, btw!). Have you done all the clinicals and so forth?

I finished the ADN portion early because my school offered block 4 over the summer. I have graduated and passed NCLEX :) now I just have the rest of my BSN with UIU.

I heard "critical thinking" can be an extremely time consuming course depending on your instructor. I am hoping my experience is pleasant, but I am prepared for the worst....just in case. I am glad to be taking it by itself and before block 1 begins.

Capstone is your final project for your bachelor's degree. It is basically a 2-semester research project. I was told we get to pick a topic pertaining to an improvement we would like to implement in our field of study. I am sure someone who has completed this can chime in with more detail. I wouldn't worry too much about it now....we have 4 blocks of nursing school to focus on first. Good luck all!!

That's awesome! Congrats on passing the NCLEX...so are you working now? How much more do you have to go on UIU?
