Central Line Placement - no reimbursement for RRNA/SRNA

Published

Here in arkansas and in tx also I believe..... Medicare and BCBS are now not paying one red cent for any lines placed by RRNA/SRNAs..... so my clinical site wont let us place them unless they are medicaid or private pay or other....

Anybody else go through this change recently? My understanding is this is the insurances choice not state/fed?

I don't know if this is applicable to this situation, but I was just checking on something similar on Friday. Where I work, they have lab techs pulling bone marrow biopsies and don't bill for MD coverage. My md wanted me to find out if an apn provided coverage if they could bill for it like a md. The state board of nursing said that an apn could bill for anything an md could. There was one caveat, bcbs does not like to reimburse for procedures provided by apn's.

If they thought they could get away with it (and some apparently do), most insurance companies would prefer not to pay for anything.

Except for government payors, it's going to get to the point where a lot of providers are simply going to tell the insurance companies to get lost, and have patients sign payment agreements that they will be responsible for whatever the insurance companies don't or won't pay.

Thanks for the comments guys. Are any other students having this problem.....maybe elsewhere in the country? I re read the memo today. We can place lines on Midicare pts bc they don't pay crap anyway. (like 15$ for a CL) No placement on BCBS or medicaid.
