CCSF Lost it's Accreditation!

U.S.A. California

For those of us who were supposed to start the nursing program this fall or next spring, I caution you to think twice. The accreditation is to be revoked next summer.

hey lauraline: i emailed the head of nursing!

My professor who used to teach at CCSF said that anyone in a program prior to July 31st 2013 (this year) will be able to complete it and the credits will be transferable. However, anyone starting a new program as of August 1, 2013 (this year) may be able to finish the program however the credits will not will NOT be transferable. So if you plan to get your BSN or Masters the credits will not count. I would NOT be starting this program in the fall. I think the gamble that the school will get their act together is a huge gamble.

THey had a year already to fix the 14 things they needed to fix. In that year they fixed 2 of the 14. There are still 12 items they have not fixed. You think if they only fixed 2 in a year that in another year they will fix the additional 12. The school is doomed. They can appeal. But they had been warned many times over the past several years that they needed to fix stuff or this will happen. They brushed it off and it is happening. It will be sad but San Francisco will not have a community college.

You are saying that students who start August 2013 will not have transferable units, but CCSF and the ACCJC has stated the accreditation is not lost until July 2014. I'm not trying to argue, just saying this is confusing. Because CCSF has sent out campus wide emails stating the following: "Your units will transfer and your degree and/or certificate will be recognized as awarded by an accredited institution. This includes any transferable units you complete during the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters."

I feel so lost now. It's not like I have a choice of whatever school I want to go to. I was lucky enough to get a spot at CCSF, and now what am I supposed to do? I was relying on this education for a career and a livelihood to support my family. Not all of us have the luxury of waiting around and trying our chances at another school. I wish I could move or commute to another school, but this is not practical or economical for everyone. This is all very complicated and saddening.

Between the media, CCSF, and the internet, I don't know who to believe right now!

I would call the National League of Nursing on Monday. Ask them directly. Don't believe what the school tells you as they are only looking out for themselves. I am sure things will be clarified more and more each day.

Here is an SF Gate article that mentions what I was talking about:

Yes it is just SF Gate but as the days go on I am sure there will be more and more published about this.

Yeah I know how you feel about waiting forever to get accepted and then getting this news. But think about it. Do you really want to chance it. There is a reason I know 5 people starting at CCSF in the fall. I think a lot of people didn't apply because of the situation so it was a lot easier to get in then in past years.

It is better to find out about it now before you start then after you are in the program. And this has been going on with CCSF for years. They are not going to pull out of this in 12 months. It is not going to happen. Even if you think there is some way they may be able to pull out of it do you want to chance it?

I would call the NLN on Monday and ask them directly what this means.

Hey there Lauraline - you are correct !!!!- your units ARE transferrable until CCSF loses it's accreditation officially (July 31 2014). So from now until that date, you will still have transferable units. If you start the program in Fall, you'll be ok for the first year for sure.

Also, IF ccsf still loses its accreditation, it sounds like the Nursing Department is looking to other schools to absorb the 100 Nursing students.

CCSF is NOT only looking out for itself. The Nursing department specifically want its nurses to do well and really does care about the fate of its students!
