wondering if anyone could recommend the best way to study for the ccrn exam. i have some dvds from a review course and the "pass ccrn" book. i am not sure if this is enough or if i should get another study aid. what is the best method for studying? would appreciate any help i could get. thank you so much!

There is a forum that focus on the CCRN subject that is really helpful. As for what I did: did tons of review questions from the PASS CCRN cd, listened to a review cd from Trends, and used LG book of questions with rationals. IMO if you go over this material more then once, then you will do fine with retaining the info to answer all the questions. I would study more for your weak areas, look at the test blue print and conduct your study schedule off that.

I watched the Laura gasparis DVDs twice and did 1000 review questions from pass CCRN. No reading except for rationales or if I really didn't understand something specific I read about that disease/procedure/physiology. The test is hard but not as hard as some make it out to be. Then again I took it before the format changed. Is it all equal percentages from the different areas now?

I used Laura Gasparis Von Frolio's DVD's. I watched them in three days and took the exam the ffollowing day and passed. Never really studied. They are awesome dvd's and they help you to focus on what's important for the exam. The only thing she doesn't go over is the synergy model for patient care.

I used the Pass CCRN! CD of practice questions only (I tried reading the book but it was just too much!)...I did those questions over and over, multiple times, and it worked out just fine for me (much better than the Kaplan CCRN book in my opinion) Best of luck!

I would also concur in the suggestion to use the Laura Gasparis Von Frolio books/tapes. Several years ago I spent 2-3 months listening to her tapes on the way to and from work, and used her review booklet. Prevously I had purchased one of those thousand page review books that sat on my coffee table basically unopened for a couple of years because it was so intimidating.

when do you plan to take your exam?? i am taking mine soon. i am also doing questions from the pass ccrn book and looking at the rationales even if i answered them correctly. i am taking notes from the rationales and looking at those on a daily basis, so i do not lose what i gained two days ago etc. i have the laura gasparis dvds and plan to go over those twice. with help in cardio (my weak area) i have a book on interpreting 12 lead ekgs, and the website icufaqs.org, pacep.org. good luck!!!!!

I have Laura Gasparis CD's and plan to listen to them at least twice and her Critical Care Examination Review book with lots of questions and rationales. I'm taking the test 9/13... I post to how I did... If anyone else takes it beforehand and finds something useful with the new format please post here. Thanks:)

Well I took the CCRN exam today and PASSSSSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clpty:

I do not want to take another one of those again.

In my test they asked at least 5 questions about acute lung injury. Know, know, know, your swan ganz values. They asked 2-3 questions about early stage of sepsis. Difference between SIADH and DI...with those know the serum osmolalities and urine osmos in particular. I had a lot of nuero questions I felt, but I can't pin point any of those, prolly in part how I didn't do well in that portion. A few of the questions on Professional Caring portion were hard as you can tell by my score. Differentiate between R vs L heart failure. That is about all I can remember. Hope this helps!

WONDERDUL NEWS! Welcome to the club.:yeah:

Hi all,

Same question only now it is 2011 and things have changed. I hear great things about Linda G Vonfrolio's products but it was made in 2004. Now AACCN has similiar product out for same price - has anyone used theirs?
