I am finally starting my pre req courses at CCM this summer and Im very excited! I am a little nervous b/c I am taking A&P 1 in 5 weeks, but Im not working and I am home so I can really concentrate! I was wondering what experiences ppl have had at CCM. What are the teachers like? Are they helpful? I am really hoping after I finish my pre reqs that I get into UMDNJ accel BSN prog. Is anyone currently going through this program? If so, realistically what time of credentials do you need to get in?? Additionally, can anyone reccomend other BSN programs in NJ? Any help would be greatly apprecaited! thanks for your help in advance!

hello,
i just gradated from CCM's AA-RN program. Took and passed the boards in February, and am now looking for work.
I took A&P I and II at CCM. Who is your professor? i heard great things about crabe. *(you can go to ratemyprofessor.com to read reveiws)
For A&P I i had a guy name Robert Gulay *(not the lounge singer lol)
he was extremly challenging. the exams were brutal. i think 1/3 of the class flunked out.
I had Bruce Khan for A&P II, he was really funny but honestly not as challenging. i learned a lot more from Gulay because i had to study so hard for his exams.
Also what i didn't like was the 'lab' portion was taught by adjunct professors. Both of whom english was their second language.
Now usually i don't mind this but in A&P lab is similar to lecture, you have to really listen and pay attention, when a professor says sacomere, no i mean sarcoma, no i mean striae... it can get frustrating.
If Jerry Amend is still teaching any class TAKE IT! He's very challening, but fair. Sit in the front and ask questions. He's a PHD in Chem/Bio and a brilliant man with a strange sense of humor that puts some people off. I had him for Chemistry.
i applied to and didn't get into the ABN program at UMDNJ. they have 30 seats and about 400 applicants according to the recuiter i spoke with. My 2.9 gpa was not good enough.
i stuck with CCM RN program at night and am happy for the education for dollars spent. and was able to work and go to school full time. i payed for it all myself and do not owe any more money. they have a good reputation and high passing ratio for the NCLEX.
best of luck in your quest.\.
Atrex..
Thank you so much for replying! your insight is very helpful...!CONGRATS on passing your boards!! I actually went to CCM yesterday and registered for classes. ( I had to change my schedule b/c of some pre req issue) Now I am actually taking Chemistry but with Professor Kapica during Summer session 1. From what I have read on RMP.com, it seems like kapica is a good professor... and I def need it b/c Chem is NOT one of strengths I am bummed b/c I had to drop Dr. Crabbe's class b/c it wasnt fitting in my schedule.. so right now all i know is during Summer session II I am taking Prof Boose for Lab for A&P 1. Right now they dont know who is teaching the lecture part, I am hoping its Crabbe or another good prof. I wil take Kahn in the fall as well as Knapik for Micro.
I hope that UMDNJ works out if not then I will look into the program that county has and I fig I can get my RN through that.. Either way I am determined.. ! and your abs right.. the $ you save @ ccm is incredible! Thanks again
If there is any advice anyone else can provide it is greatly appreciated!

I have been finishing up my pre-reqs at ccm. Dr. Hunter is AWSOME for A and P. He is hard but he makes the material understandable and you leave his class feeling like you know your stuff. I had Crabbe for lab and he was just OK but a good guy.
I applied to a few ABSN programs but I am sticking with CCM because it is the cheapest way to go right now. I can't be taking out loans for thoasands and thoasands of dollars!
Good luck with everything!
Thanks for the reply.. I was wondering how competitive it is to get into the program at CCM? I have heard nothing but positive things about it. What do they look for in a candidtate for the program? I def want to keep my options open in regards to schools.
Thanks for your help as always!

I was told that the program looks for in-county students first. do you live in morris county?
what's your GPA like?
Let me know if you want the name and contact info for the head of the dept. PM me

I cant PM just yet.. need to get to 15 posts.. almost there lol..
I live in Morris county and I already did my undergrad in business(GPA 3.2) and start my 1st pre req in may..
Well I am still waiting to hear from them about the fall--should be any day now. I'll let you know since it sounds like we have similar backgrounds. I had a 3.2 as an undergrad and also have lived in Morris County for years. I have kinda just been under the assumption I'll get in--could be wrong though! Just get good grades on the pre-reqs and you should be fine. I overhear people who got in who didn't do so great on the pre-reqs so if you do well you should be just fine.

I applied to UMDNJ three years ago. I got into the program. I had to leave 1 month later and did not put on my exit letter as a medical leave. Can you believe it I basically put the X in the wrong place so then I had to reapply. I must have been so stressed out with the injury. I was in tears when I found out. I reapplied and did not get it but I am going to try again. 3rd times a charm. Yes, there are something like 450-500 people that apply. I am taking more nursing classes. I figure if I get A's in both pharmacology and pathophysiology (both considered difficult classes) they would be interested.
I am so sorry to hear that happ but Im sure if you keep trying you will do it. Thats great that your going the extra mile and taking those classes. Thats something for me to keep in mind as well. Best of Luck in your journey!

Wow! It’s amazing to see your post as that was exactly the route I took. Summer of 2005 I started off my prereqs at CCM with Chemistry, A & P I, and Psychology. Sciences were never my strong point but the professors at CCM were excellent. Hard work but it was worth it. I had Kapica for Chemistry and she was very good. However Microbiology with Robert Gulay was my best class. He was strict, but once you got past the initial adjustment and follow his instructions, you’ll be fine.
I applied to UMDNJ’s accelerated program and also CCM’s weekend program. I got into both and chose to go with UMDNJ. I graduated last year and definitely have no regrets.
Thats awesome! Always great to hear success stories..:yeah:I figured whatever way I do is just fine.. as long as I get my RN
I have Knapic for Micro
Boos for A&P
