  1. This is far from you, but County College of Morris offers an IV Therapy Certification class. Cost is $96. Next class is on December 17th, 2010. County College of Morris Link to the catalog (page 26): http://www.ccm.edu/Media/Website%20Resources/pdf/businesscommunity/CppFall10Web.pdf
  2. Wow! It’s amazing to see your post as that was exactly the route I took. Summer of 2005 I started off my prereqs at CCM with Chemistry, A & P I, and Psychology. Sciences were never my strong point but the professors at CCM were excellent. Hard work but it was worth it. I had Kapica for Chemistry and she was very good. However Microbiology with Robert Gulay was my best class. He was strict, but once you got past the initial adjustment and follow his instructions, you’ll be fine. I applied to UMDNJ’s accelerated program and also CCM’s weekend program. I got into both and chose to go with UMDNJ. I graduated last year and definitely have no regrets.
  3. I had a BCG shot in 1992, so will always be positive even with a negative cxr. I was also put on INH and was supposed to be on it for 9 months. I was taken off of it after one months as I had various reactions - swollen lymph nodes, mouth sores, etc which the doc wasn't sure if the INH caused or not. After a month of rest from meds, I started taking Rifampin and I have been on it for 1.5 months now and have had no side effects from it. Other students in nursing school with me taking INH had none of the side effects I suffered. Because your friend had a reaction to it does not mean you will also.
  4. I am currently at UMDNJ and there are definetly several people over 50 in my class. Age is nothing but a number, don't let it hold you back. My mother went back to school at 51. She was not computer literate but had to learn as part of her progam. If she can do it at that age... Goodluck and follow your heart
  5. I just started there in January 2007 on the BSN/MSN and will be done by May 2008 with the BSN part which is full time. I have classes/clinicals 4 days a week with most of the days going from 8 am to 4 pm. While on the BSN part 3 MSN courses are included so that if you do decide to sta on or go back to UMDNJ for your MSN, you would not have to do them. The MSN, depending on your area of specialty can be started after your BSN either ft or pt, except in the case of Acute/Critical Care and CRNA where you need at least 2 years ICU experience The program is very doable but, you are going to have to put a lot of things on the backburner while you are in it as there is a lot of work to cover in 15 months. In my 1/07 class we are approximately 65. Go to the link http://sn.umdnj.edu/academics/accelmsn/index.htm a lot of the questions you have can be answered there and should be up to date. The Gpa required is at least a 3.0 from your prior degree. You also have to complete all the pre-reqs with a minimum gpa of 2.75 I know they had a couple of information sessions recently but interviews for the accelerated program is not something I believe they do. If you have more specific question let me know.
  6. I know this might be a bit late, but just had to post on this thread. I am AS - meaning I carry the sickle cell trait. I have always known this and I have seen the effect of the disease both on close family members and friends. It can be very painful when going through a crisis and can lead to complications and long hospital stays for those with full blown SS but, the degree of the disease manifests itself differently in different people. I do not know of anyone of either my friends or family members that would rather not be alive today even though they have SS. The important thing to know is that people do go on to live normal lives with the disease. Having an arbotion will not solve the problem as she will always have the risk of having a baby with SS if she is with a partner that is also AS. An example of someone with SS is T-Boz from the group TLC who has not let having sickle cell anemia stop her from achieving what she wants to do in her life.
  7. You are welcome. Nope not a registered nurse yet... I will be starting an accelerated BSN program in January 07 at UMDNJ. Bye and goodluck.
  8. The questions can be from any subject area or about your experiences. Examples for speaking and writing could be: 1. Describe your experience of your first day in high school? 2. Some people choose friends who are different from themselves. Others choose friends who are similar to themselves. Compare the advantages of having friends who are different from you with the advantages of having friends who are similar to you. Which kind of friend do you prefer for yourself? Why? 3. If you could change one thing about your country, what would it be and why? 4. Some university students believe that they spend too much time in classes and would prefer to have more time for indipendent study and research. Others prefer to learn in a classroom setting, guided by professor. Which type of learning is more valuable: indipendent study or classroom learning? Why? Include details and examples. Note that there isn't a right or wrong answer as people have different opinions. Just be able to phrase your answers properly and try to give examples to support your answers. From your writing above, your english is pretty good. You could also try reading out to yourself. I took an English Composition class, and it is amazing how an essay you've written sounds when you read it out loud to yourself. Also, there are TOEFL prep forums out there. If you do a search on google, you will be able to find some helpful ones. Goodluck.
  9. Hi Smith, I don't have an answer to your question. I am actually waiting to see a response to it as I will be in the Spring 2007 Accelerated BSN class. Hope someone responds.
  10. I am not sure what exactly you need to know. I took TOEFL-IBT as part of the entrance requirement for UMDNJ's Accelerated BSN program as my degree was from the United Kingdom (their policy is as long as your degree is from another country you have to take it). I passed with 110/120. English is my first language so I did not have a problem on that end. However, there is a lot of material to cover and I sometimes found myself running out of time to complete sections during the testing. Also, during the speaking section, having everyone around you speaking at the same time, could be distracting. Goodluck
  11. I know that County College of Morris has a Weekend Study Track with classes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The link to their page is http://www.ccm.edu/hns/nursing/ Didi
