CCBC - N/W Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am applying to the CCBC Essex nights and weekends program for the fall of 2012. I am hearing all the stories about those either getting in or rejected for the Spring day program. Wanted to maybe start a thread for those whole applying with me and maybe relate to my anxiety! LOL

i pulled a B in my first semester which i was really proud of since i worked full time while in the program. the grading is tough...enams are worth 70% of ur grade so u def need to do well on them. anything under 74.99% is considered a failing grade, so its tough.

Thank you :)

Geeze - anything below a 74.99% is a flat out failing grade! I know that's not a grade to write home about but it's a flat out FAIL? I guess as a patient I wouldn't want the nurse who got 72's and 70's on all their tests all through nursing school either. LOL!

It's good to hear that you like the program and that you are doing well in it.

So what are clinicals like? Are the exams hard? I heard they're like NCLEX where there are always 2 possible answers and you have the pick the best one.

Lauri, I wonder if CCBC goes off a point system like Harford CC does. I wish they would just provide us with a clear cut definite way in which they evaluate us.

Actually- I just asked Gwen Jones about that same thing last week because I heard they did have a point system. I did not get a clear answer. From the way it sounded they do but they don't make the information public.

GRRRRRR....I think I may just go insane before the decision is made. I can't believe that it's basically just February. Really?!!! Some days I am good but others the wait is just killing me and I keep battling in my head about whether or not I should have taken the teas over again. Let the madness end! LOL

I just wish I knew how to calculate the points and that would somewhat alleviate the stress but i guess they make it top secret.

I'm not applying to CCBC, but just wanted to say "hey!". We were in A&P II together during spring of 2011.

Good luck! You are so smart, I am sure you will be chosen!!

Thank you so much. Where did you sit? Man, Hershey was tough wasn't he!!! When are you applying?

I sat on the right hand side of the classroom next to Daria (sp??). She was insanely smart! I was also in your lab class, sat next to Kate & Daria in that one as well.

Hershey was ridiculously hard with that darn overhead projector and all lecture! UGH!

I am not applying to CCBC at all (did last year and was rejected). After the rejection I decided to take my pre-reqs for my bachelor's, and have applied to UMSON for this fall. Highly doubt I will be accepted there either since I am currently in Stats and need to take A&P II over since I only earned a C.

Yeah, Hershey wasn't the best at explaining things and when his fiancé died he was all over the place. Poor man though, that had to be hard. Can't believe he never missed a class. Tryin to remember you. Where in lab did you sit in relation to me? Esposito wasn't easy either with his lab/lecture exams. I was quite relieved when that class was over. You'll have to let me know about USOM. When do you find out? This wait is killing me and it's only February. When you applied to CCBC what was your GPA and teas if you don't mind me asking? Did you apply to nights and weekends? You should have applied to both this time around. Sorry if there are no spaces between the paragraphs. When I use my phone it never allows me to use my return.

I, too, can't believe he never missed a class. Unreal! My mom passed away 2wks before this past fall semester, and I had to make the decision if I was going to return right away or not. I came to the conclusion that if I didn't...I wouldn't want to. So, I jumped right back in and made straight A's for the semester (THREE classes, working FT, 3 kids, etc.)...not an easy feat by far :) I don't foresee us finding anything out for at least another 2 months. My GPA and TEAS at the time I applied? Oh gosh, I know I had a proficient on my TEAS (same as now), and my GPA for the courses that they looked at was right around a 3.2 I believe? So, not that wonderful. I was waitlisted, and then ultimately rejected. I applied to N/W.

Wow, sorry to hear about your mother. I can't imagine how hard that must have been. But it shows a lot about your character that you came back an had amazing results. I really hope you get in. So where do you live that you're applying all the way near DC? What made you decide not to apply to CCBC again? Did you ever think about the LPN program? I can't believe how competitive CCBC is. I mean a 3.2 GPA is pretty darn good. I guess though that since they only accept 40 people it makes it that much more difficult. I would love to apply to Hopkins but 67K a year is insane.

UMSON is in downtown Balto, I live in Abindgon :) No DC for me!! I decided to NOT apply to CCBC again once I was turned down. I made the decision right then and there to change my course of direction, and worked on my pre-reqs for the bachelor's program instead. No, never thought about LPN. I just know if I am rejected once again, I am applying again in the spring :) Hopkins has been a DREAM of mine since I was a kid! I can't stomach the cost either, plus, when I walked into UMSON I immediately felt...this is where I want to be :)
