I'm seeking opinions/advice as to which program I should go with. Granted....I'm sure the $ will be significantly less at CCAC......I really want to choose the right school. I'm 37, no kids, and will be working weekends to focus on school throughout the week. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Sharawnda, How long did it take for you to get an acceptance letter? Did you have to meet with them? What was the procedure? I am still waiting for them to get together to review my application. I called mid-to late January and Chris said they haven't met yet, but she had my application ready for review. I passed the PSB with flying colors. I am so nervous. All this waiting is getting to me. I really want to go to Mercy. But as a backup, I am applying to CCAC (they are extending the deadling because of the weather) and I'm taking the PAX test on Saturday.
Anyways, this is my first post! LOL. I have been finishing my pre-reques, etc. for the last 6 years going 1/2 time, and I'm taking my micro right now and I'll be done with everything except my nursing core classes.
Good Luck to you in which ever program you decide with.

I graduated from CCAC's ADN north campus program last year. I started out at the northside/allegheny campus and it was AWFUL! I transferred to north campus after the first semester. I also heard many, many horror stories from students that went to south campus and eventually transferred to the north campus. The students had a much longer commute, but thought it was well worth it. I was very, very pleased with the north campus nursing program; they had a very supportive learning environment, the students were treated with respect, and they truly wanted to see you succeed. I really liked all of the nursing faculty at north campus except for 1 instructor that no one liked.

I am really, really sorry for not responding earlier! I hope by now you have found out if you were accepted to Mercy or not! I didn't have to meet with them. I took the PSB in late November, and I received my acceptance letter in February, as they said they were meeting in January to review applications. I know they have a rolling admission, so they most likely meet periodically for review of applicants. Please let me know if you decided on CCAC or Mercy:)
Mercy denied me, then asked if they can forward my ap to St. margarets. I said yes and was expecting another denial letter. But they accepted me and I went for orientation last week. I think I'm going to like it. it's nice and there is only 13 of us. We'll be split in 2 groups for clinicals. So I am hoping with a small class we'll get the attention we need. I'm excited! I start next month!

Congrats!
I started at the Allegheny campus then transferred to Boyce for summer. I'm still at Boyce. I wasn't able to transfer back to Allegh (sections were full). From what I understand, the flip flopping is not looked upon well. The different campuses DO use different textbooks and the program varies greatly. Switching campuses is not easy.
I really, really liked the Allegheny evening program. I found it very manageable.
Well, going to school at a UPMC facility will indeed help you get a job at UPMC-------------this is great, if you want to start at a servant's rate. There are plenty of other companies out there that will pay you what you are worth----AND---- will not charge you $100 plus a month to park .........Oh, and other companies do not BREAK worker's rights laws by making you carry a pickle phone while on break---------THUS--------not actually giving you a break-------------

I attended South for non nursing classes and had no problem with it. During my clinicals with Boyce campus I met a few really great nurses that were also clinical instructors at South campus. That's the only real input I can offer there
