CCAC vs. UPMC Mercy comparison?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I'm seeking opinions/advice as to which program I should go with. Granted....I'm sure the $ will be significantly less at CCAC......I really want to choose the right school. I'm 37, no kids, and will be working weekends to focus on school throughout the week. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

I've worked with RNs at UPMC who are CCAC graduates. Some of them worked there as PCTs while others were hired with no healthcare background. A couple years ago UPMC hired its largest group of graduate nurses, but the next year there was not a lot of hiring. I've read a couple of articles this year stating UPMC will create 500 positions next year and there is a great need for RNs (and PAs), especially at Shadyside and McKeesport. Plus in 2012 UPMC East will open. So hiring has been slow for a while, but it's gradually picking up. Working as an NA or other healthcare position at UPMC will definetly put your foot in the door. The starting rate for UPMCs graduate nurses is low, I think it's $21.32 right now.
