CCAC Spring 2010

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just curious if any who have applied have heard if they've been accepted to CCAC Nursing program for Spring 2010 admittance?

Also, does anyone out there know what the likelihood is of getting your fist choice?

uniforms-- mine costed around 100 dollars, but i also go the warm up jacket.. i dont wanna go to lunch with gross stuff on my scrubs so i put the jacket on during lunch and take it back off when i come to the floor.

stethascope-- doesnt matter.. you can buy the really good lippemans or something like that, my teachers all said unless your going to go on into a specialty that the ones they sell at the bookstore will be fine for us now, those were around 30 dollars i believe

Books-- at the north campus this semester tayler lillis (the people all our books are from) had a package deal for us. It came with assessments made easy, the fundamentals of nursing book, the fundamentals of nursing dvds, the nanda book. and a med guide... i believe that costed around 250 dollars.. not really sure.. i forget.. but it was cheaper than all my books from my pre reqs (normal semesters i would end up paying around 400 dollars)..

Clinicals--oooo clinicals.. the first clinical rotation at a nursing home was scary but it was a good learning tool, for the simple fact is that you bathe the patient and you get over your fear of.. well you know.. being uncomfortable seeing their parts.. i was the only one in my clinical that got a male.. and he was younger.. around 30 there for spina bifida. I got over it fast though.. then for the rest of the 8 weeks you kinda sit there and twidle your thumbs bc theres not much to do... Im now at passavant ont he cancer floor.. yes the cancer floor... i was so scared. i mean theres patients are either A) just finding out they have cancer or B) knowing they are going to die. The first day, my instructor did seem to throw us to the wolves persay. But its my 4th week there and now im getting into the swing of things and i know what is expected of us by what time. It gets better. or at least im hoping. Clinical paperwork sucks! you dont really do it in the real world, or at least i heard.. its just a learning tool so you know whats going on.. like for careplans most or all hospitals have pre-made careplans.

I was scared about giving shots also, but somewhere around the 8th week when your about to switch clinical sites, they send you to the VA hospital for flu clinic and you get lots of expierence there. Im petrified of shots, i thought i was going to pass out when my lab instructor first pulled the needles out and started playing with them, until i got my hands on them. Who woulda thought taht i actually now LOVE giving them haha

OOoo and how to get through them.. i made a friend and we double up.. she comes with me and i go with her.. it helps get us past the anxiety and if i forget anything during the assessment she brings it up and vice versa

Stuff to get in-- you can have your doctor sign off for your immunizations, but for some of them i believe hep b you HAVE to have a titer. Also i would recommend the titer just because i found out i wasnt immune to one of my vaccinations taht i had int he past so i got a booster shot.. i dont wanna catch anything.. and i forgot to mention.. you can go to allegheny health department for your titers.. i was just waiting on my med records too long (long story of a freakin run around from my dr bc they were in "storage") the health department take 2 weeks to get them back.. concentra took 2 days.. so i had to pay the more money for that

I hope you guys have recieved your acceptance letters by now! today in lecture we actually got to fill out our forms for our classes next semester!

I definitely hope that we're getting our letters today or tomorrow! I'm going crazy!!!

doesnt matter the color of stethascope.. i have a bright orange one. i regret getting that color now...

TEST-- i read throught his and i guess chocobean is also in the program but her test are different then mine.. i wish i had hers bc we only get 4 test through out the semester.. 2 unit test a midterm and a final.. the first until test was about 15 chapters so we really had to know everything! i wish i could get quizzes to at least give me a boost for a cushion on test... The drug calc test isnt hard at all.. at least for me, we did have a few people who didnt make it.. if you recently took math108 you should be fine.. for this semester. The skills we had test on in the lab part so far is, p.o. (by mouth) med pass, shots, blood pressure, IV priming and drip rates

why do you regret the orange stethoscope? I only ask because i wanted to get a hot pink or aqua colored one, but i'm also not sure i want o stand out either. lol

No letter yet! :banghead:

it will come soon dont worry.. and no matter what you get something saying you wernt accepted i believe.. so no news can sometimes be good news.. i regret the orange stethascope just because i feel unprofessional with it cuz it pops out.. yea.. i wanted a hot pink one too but they were sold out.. i shoulda got the blue.. i actually had it in my hand then i switched to the orange the last minute
