CCAC FALL 2018 hopefuls and more

Published

Hello!

This is being created for the CCAC nursing students who have applied to the Fall 2018 semester. I saw one that was created for the Spring 2018 and thought it would be great to connect and share information for those of us that are hoping for this coming Fall.

So, when do you think we will hear back if we got in or not?

What were your TEAS scores?

How many of you have taken the prereqs and supporting classes?

What campus did you choose and why?

Is this your first career or are you looking for a second career?

I'll put my answers in the comments below. I look forward to connecting with you all and am excited to hear about your adventures!

Me too! Some people knew they had to take it but didn't get the testing scheduled in time so I can understand that. The testing at CCAC filled quickly and people may have not been willing to pay the transfer fee from another testing site.

Points are awarded for A/P and Micro

Here is the info on the classes:

Grade A = 0.75. For first attempt and then goes down by .25 per attempt.

B =0.5 and down by 0.25 (nothing lower than a B is beneficial)

D & F grades are not acceptable.

Classes do not count if they are "in progress". The grade/credit has to be earned prior to the application deadline to count.

They do not take your teas score into affect fortunately for some, unfortunately for me. They take ur GPA and use a points scale. U get extra points on ur GPA for taking ur corequs before u applied, and getting a B or higher. I'm taking mine now so it will not matter unless I applied next semester, after grades are done. My GPA is a 3.5 or so. I applied to South Campus day.

I know my bio 110 teacher said I need an A or a B on this class if I want accepted. So I am not sure how they take ur prequisites like math, english chem and bio 110 into account...but they factor in somehow or she wouldn't have said that, at least the science ones must.

Thank you for the information! That sucks on the TEAS score then... although I did have someone tell me the higher score did have impact.

Maybe it was for a different nursing school?

My GPA is a 3.8 for undergrad and 4.0 grad. So I have no clue which one they would use for point allocation.

If anyone finds out more on the goal points that would be great to add to this conversation. The nursing packet only has the points for the Anat/phy and Micro.

We still have 3.5 weeks at a minimum be for we find out. I'm a bit anxious because I'd just like to know, but then I will have to hurdle the class placement. I can only take evening and weekend courses ...but I'll face that hurdle when it comes.

Did anyone apply to Shadyside too? I'm considering doing that as a backup and transferring back to CCAC if it comes to it....but I have no idea how easy it is to transfer from one nursing program to another.... Any thoughts? I prefer CCAC because you can do full time at night. Shadyside only offers part time night from what I was told.

Where did you hear that from? I'm curious because what if there are two identical applicants with exact same GPA but have different TEAS exam score? Wouldn't they potentially look at TEAS score to determine who's in and who's not? If what you say is true, then I feel it's quite unfair......There's basically no incentive in trying to obtain high scores.

I agree. Good point about the incentive. Perhaps the scores are used as the breakers? I wonder if any of the instructors not on the selection committee even know. I'm going to ask mine to see what they say. I'll share once I do.

Amber reed told me that. i even asked twice in 2 different months to make sure I was not hearing it wrong. I would suppose they would go by who had the better grade in bio 110 and chemistry...but i dont know how the preques work into factoring out the decision. I do know my biology 110 teacher told me that we need A's to get into the nursing program. I know people who had B's in 110 and go in...but that's just what she said.

Too add to my previous comment, she went on to say that's good and will help with understanding nursing 110, but like I said, that is all.

I'm just going to wait. We have only couple weeks until decision is sent to us. Worst case scenario I'll just apply for next spring or appeal

I agree. There is no sense in worrying beforehand. I would definitely appeal because I've observed that the most flexibility comes when you enter in the Fall. I've been following the scheduled classes and noted that not all campuses offer the same flexibility and classes in the Spring for the beginning courses. If you start in the Fall, there are more classes available throughout the track. For example, there were not as many Nurs 110/120 classes offered in the Spring as there was in the Fall. I'm in a situation where I have to have evening courses so I benefit when there are more classes offered.

No matter what happens, I look forward to seeing you all get in!

On what grounds does a student have to appeal? Like what would be the reason for appeal if I were to appeal and get rejected and what would I say like I did good but it wasn't good enough?... LOL
