Ccac/calu spring 2010

Hi Everyone, I just got my acceptance letter today for ccac/calu spring 2010! I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread for CALU. So that all of us that got accepted can get aquainted since we will be classmates and we can use this thread to share information about CALU & the program..............I am looking forward to meeting everyone!!:D

OK does any one have suggestions for nursing shoes, what can we or can not we wear. Any one know where we can get them cheap?

I don't know when orientation is yet either, I think they are supposed to send us a letter letting us know when it is. When we were getting fit for uniforms I asked about it and I was told that it would probably be the week before classes start. I have a face book and I will send you a PM. I think you have to have so many posts before you can pm........

Wow, time flies!! It's been a while since I've posted, hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years! I technically start school on the 11th because I'm taking a class (human growth and dev.) at the South campus.. is anyone else taking classes there too? Take care and keep warm!:snowflake:

Hi! The holiday's were great! How were your holidays? I am glad January is here because we are closer to starting classes! I am taking math 108 at south campus. My classes technically start on January 11th too but bcs the class is on sundays my 1st day is actually on January 17th. You take care too! See you at orientation whenever that is.................

Hi everyone, I just checked the website for the bookstore at CALU the books we need are listed but I don't see any ibsn numbers listed, anyway it looks like the books will cost us about $700.00. If you look at the list there are 2 bundles the 1st one is $ 203.95 & the second one print books only is $ 453.36 ( you can get ebooks with this one too for $100.00 more) then there are 3 books listed as special order with no prices. I called the bookstore and I was told that those 3 items usually are no more than $10.00 a piece. Anyway I hope everyone had a great Christmas & New Years..... I hope we find out soon when orientation is. If anyone finds out please post it here.............Betty:)

i got an email today about orientation and the book list here is the email(the syllabus must purchased at the bookstore)

there will be a mandatory orientation for all nrn 101 students entering into the ccac/cal-u nursing program in the spring 2010.

date: january 15, 2010

time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

location: morgan hall auditorium

please bring your syllabus with you.

attached is the booklist. the books are to be purchased at the cal-u bookstore, not at a ccac campus. the books should be available for purchase by january 15th.

I'm wondering if our clinical will be on campus the first week, I saw that Boyce's is. Im just wondering that because what exactly will we be able to do on the first day? I don't even know how to properly make a hospital bed, and I work in a hospital!!!! lol :p

I wish there was some way I could get some of our books online because that is a large chunk of change to dish out!! Im just afraid of buying the wrong thing if I don't buy them at CALU :confused:

In case anyone is wondering, I asked if we're allowed to use digital recording devices for lab/lecture and the answer I got is that they are permitted. I figured any advantage is good :o

I was told no open back shoes & all white. I found regular nursing shoes at allheart.com on sale for $11.00. They are having a clearance right now............Betty

Hi everyone! It was a long exciting day at orientation today. I signed up for the study group did anyone else? I will be studying dosage calculations this weekend & reading the chapters for lecture. does anyone know what books we should bring for lecture? I am assuming the books that have the chapters that we need to read, but I am wondering if we need to bring anything else.

i took my PAX test today, whew glad its over.:confused: i hope i did good. they said within two weeks i should get my results and then im taking my application straight down there and hand-delivering it. no chances/risks lol :o

Ill let you know what happens, i should know if i got accepted by mid-MAY (they said).....

but i do have a couple more questions for you so if you get the time to respond id greatly appreciate your advice anytime..

With nursing school, when you first start do they assign a hospital for where you will go? or how does this work exactly?

do you start in the hospital your first semester in nursing 101?

is lecture for nursing the same as lecture for micro or a&p? (just studying the material and getting tested? or is it different?)

How do you feel about the fast track program? (im not even sure if they have a fast track program at CALU or not) I of course want to get finished fast, and this is my last semester of classes i need to take. the only thing left is nursing classes...so im now contemplating options to take.
