CC or BSN or ABSN?

Published

I am currently taking pre-reqs in a community college in NY.

I already have a bachelor degree from another field with gpa 3.5.

I first time was planning to go to a nursing program where my community college have, but I have been heard that it is more difficult to get in cc nursing than BSN.

Is that true? What would you do if you are in my situation?

Please give me advices!!

I live in NY so let me answer for you. Getting into a nursing program at a SUNY or CUNY is hard when compared to private schools. That is the main reason why getting into a CC is so hard. Public schools are limited in the space that they offer due to budget concerns.

I got into a ABSN to start for this semester (admissions was based on grades and interview). I did not attend because my funding fell through. I postponed my entrance until next year. I am using this time to apply to WCC. The GPA does not count in admissions ( you have to have at least 2.0 in the prereqs) but the TEAS exam determines entrance. If I get into WCC I will go there...I can't beat that price.

I say apply to all three types. If cost is an issue focus on CC or programs at SUNY or CUNY. Yes, it is harder to get into CC's but people get in every year. You can be one of them too. If money is not an issue apply to some ABSN programs at private colleges.

I say look at your finances and make the best decision for you.

Thank you so much for your reply.

May I ask which school you get into for ABSN?

Also is your GPA is good? I am a little worried that many people who got in ABSN have just amazing GPA.

I got into the ABSN program at Concordia College in Bronxville. My GPA is alright. It is over a 3.7. I say apply to all the school you want. You never know what the answer is until you apply.

I think the ABSN would be the best because you already have a BS! This is what I did.
