Case scenarios during panel interview

Published

I'm needing some advice on how to prepare for a panel interview I have for a GN position. I know they are all about case scenarios. How can I efficiently prepare for the interview? The floor is a cardiac PCU, so I know I will be asked about cardiac drugs, but what else do you think they will ask? I really want this job ;)

They might ask you about prioritization, like give you some case studies and have you figure out which is most pressing etc.

This sounds like a "behavioral interview"...

Since you are a new grad, no one expects you to have extensive expertise. Don't try to fake it by cramming at the last minute - they'll pick up on this.

Key pointers - when they pose a question, it will be designed to elicit specific information about YOUR OWN experience - not generalities or recall of theoretical information. For instance, it they say "Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a very unpleasant/difficult patient. . ." You need to respond by 'telling them a story' about your own experiences. If you have never had that experience, just say so. Don't wander off and say something like "I believe that all patients must be treated ... blah ... blah... blah". If they ask you an "IF" question . "If you walk into a room and a patient is clutching his chest and groaning with pain, what would you do?" .. you can tell what you *would* do... and it's OK to include theory and procedures you learned about but have not yet performed.

Basically? Pay close attention to each question to determine exactly what type of information they are seeking. If you need more time to think, just say so -"Can I have a minute to think about that?" Be authentic - you'll do fine.
