Carrying soap in scrub leaks

Published

Hello. I just finished my weekend CNA clinicals at a long term care facility. I have hand allergies and have to use alternative soap. I keep the liquid soap in a travel size container with a flip lid. In one pocket I keep my hand sanitizer, lotion, and the soap. They fit snug and don't move around very much. I turn the lotion and soap upside down to prevent leaking from gravity. Anyways, by the end of my shift some of the soap managed to leak out and soil the front of my scrub pocket.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there maybe a better container I could use? I thought of maybe finding scrubs with small pockets for each individual hygiene item. Maybe if such a scrub is hard to find I could have a tailor add small pockets to the scrub. Thanks for the time and any advice that is given.

Just put them in a ziplock sandwich bag.

Ziplock bags is good, or maybe a fanny pack that has small pouches or pockets for your items so they won't tip over.

I don't know whether OP wants to pursue this route, but I believe that in this case, the employer may be required to "accommodate" her allergy by providing a hypoallergenic alternative if they knew about it when she was hired. If the allergy developed after she was hired, or she did not inform the employer at time of hire, it's a different story.

Ziplock baggies for sure.

I like the fanny pack idea. I am concerned that a ziplock bag might be time consuming and attract a lot of moisture/germs.

My CNA instructor mentioned that work places do not have to make accommodations for people with allergies. She mentioned that I will most likely have to buy my own soap and gloves wherever I work. If that's the case then that is fine. I have been dealing with hand allergies for 6 years now. I am just relieved that I made it through two shifts with no allergy flare ups. It gives me confidence that

I should continue going to school for nursing.

I do not work for this facility. I am currently doing CNA clinicals there for CNA school. I did great and the charge nurse advised me to apply and use her as a reference.

Thanks for the advice.
