Hello all!!

I was just curious if anyone applied to CCHS for Fall 2009?! I am anxiously waiting for a letter in the mail, and was wondering if any other applicants have received a letter of acceptance or denial yet!! I'm crossing my fingers I will get in, I had HORRIBLE high school grades but am finishing up my Medical Assisting degree and have straight A's in all of those courses. Hopefully they will take that into consideration!

Also I would love to hear from anyone who attended CCHS - how competitive was it to get in, do they have a waiting list, what GPA you had when you applied. Also i'm very curious about how difficult the school is! Any information is greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi! I am also waiting to hear back from CCHS for this fall. Please let me know when you get your letter because I am on pins and needles! Thanks!

Erby,

thanks for responding!!! I too am on pins and needles!! The website says they will let us know by mid march, so I am thinking we will get a letter anytime in the next two weeks!

If you don't mind me asking, what is your academic history?? Do you have a Bachelors degree, or pre req work, or just coming from high school?? Have you ever applied to nursing school before??

I applied to PSON last year and got denied. I guess thats why i'm extremely nervous about getting this letter because I want to go to CCHS so badly!!! Basically I had horrible high school grades (I'm 23, btw) I took a few classes for pre reqs and got a few C's but then i got my CNA, and now I am about to complete my Medical Assisting degree with straight A's. So I have no idea what my chances are im just crossing my fingers!!!

The pre req work I have done is : Eng Comp 1, General Pysch, Developmental Pysch, AP1 and currently I am taking AP2 online through CPCC.

Thats my story!!!

Good Morning!

I read mid march too but I really didn't think it would take till then since all they do is put your info on a spreadsheet and take the top 30 or whatever it is they need. Patience is a virtue that I lack I guess!

I am 24 and have a bachelors degree from Winthrop in Fine Arts/ Interior Design. My college gpa was like a 3.8 but my high school was like 3.4 (on a 5 point scale so nothing stellar) and my ACT was a 21 I think? This is my first time applying and will just apply to Mercy, CPCC, and PSON for the Spring if I don't get in OR I will do their whole prenursing program. I like that idea because its just I wanted to be done with school by Spring 2011! If we started the prenursing this summer and finished it this fall, would we start in Jan do you know? Or do they make people wait till May because I read it takes a year? The good thing for you is that I don't think they care if you have a degree, just that you took college level coursework.

I have been looking into nursing for a really long time it took the economy crashing for me to take this jump to start over. All of my nursing friends love it so I am really excited about this switch!

Are you working as a CNA now? I am in that program as we speak. I hope to get a job in a hospital working as that - I cannot believe how low their pay is though!

Keep in touch! Its nice talking to someone who is in a similar situation!

Erby,

WOW!!! your academic history is amazing. you are definitely going to get in for sure!!! They would be crazy to turn you down!! I'm not sure I understand the whole spreadsheet thing. What is their admissions process? is it a point system? I don't know much about CCHS, I just sort of applied on a whim hoping I would get in. I wasn't going to apply to any other nursing schools until I finished medical assisting because I wanted to have a ton of good grades to show but decided what do I have to loose? The worst that could happen is that I get denied, and in that case I will apply again for the Spring of 2010. Like you, I am pretty anxious to be finished with school.

Any info you have on how they decide who gets in, i would love to hear it! Also, do you know if they have a waiting list?? I actually never talked to anyone in admissions over the phone so I would love to understand more about the process if you know about it!!

No, I do not work as a CNA, mainly because I am in school full time so I don't have the time. I got CNA trained last August and if i do not get in to CCHS I will probably take a CNA job. I am finished with school this april!

If I do get in i will probably take Micro this summer through CPCC just to get all my sciences out of the way.

Have you completed any of the general coursework?

Hey! Thank you! I hope so but you never know what exactly they look at! I went to an info thing for CCHS and they accept 70ish people a term but if prenursing people finish with their coursework then they have a guaranteed spot so that brings the open slots down to 30ish depending. They also mentioned a spreadsheet so I assume they do it based on points to weed out the bottom people. She also made it sound like if you have any college work then they almost look at you the same whether you have only 6 hrs or 100hrs of college level classes. They may give you an extra point for actually have a degree but I don't really know. (And in your case they may consider you a graduate since you would be before the fall) The girl also said that it is anywhere from 300 - 400 people applying for these 30ish seats....super tough competition thats why the whole prenursing might be just an easier path. If I were to do that then I wouldn't graduate until I think Dec of 2011. I am not sure on a waiting list but I doubt it...I think if you don't get in than they offer the next in line people this whole prenursing bit.

I haven't done any sciences but have already done everything else. I am going to start those this summer regardless. CPCC is so cheap so I will do them there if I don't do/get in to the prenursing path.

This may sound random but did you sumbit an official sat/act score? Mine was on my high school transcript and Mercy told me that it would suffice for them so I assumed it would be that way for everyone?

Yes i did submit an official SAT score, but I didn't take the ACT when I was in high school. I'm sure that will be fine for CCHS also (that its on your high school transcript).

AH i just got a whole lot more nervous about my chances of getting in! 30 spots and 300-400 applicants? That is terrifying!!! Do you think if we don't get in, and apply a 2nd time.. we would have a better chance?

This is all so nerve racking!!

That's why I am on pins and needles!!!! But I would think the majority of applicants are in high school with no college experience....so I hate to say it - but better for us.

I would think you might because I thought there was a section on the application if you had applied before. But that is also why they have that pre nursing...I know I keep talking about it but it does make sense to do that if you don't get in but it would require you to retake so classes at their school since you have most prereqs.

I will keep my fingers crossed for us! Please let me know when you hear!

I will definitely let you know when I hear!! I am going to be stalking the mail man until I do hear haha. I wonder if I did prenursing I could take the last 3 gen eds required for their program that I haven't already taken...which would be a literature class, sociology, and college math?? Or is the prenursing specific classes? If it is specific I definitely would not be willing to retake Anatomy and physiology all over again, those classes are too hard !

Yeah, getting into nursing school is tough. I have applied to numerous nursing schools before eventually being accepted into a BSN program. My gpa was a 3.75 and I got denied at CCHS, UNCC, and Mercy. CCHS wanted me to enroll in their pre-nursing program which will guarantee me a seat as soon as all my pre-reqs were completed. Needless to say, all my pre-reqs were completed at other institutions(CPCC and UNCC). I don't want to waste more money and time for classes that I have already taken.

I suggest that you make A's in all your sciences A&PI, A&PII, and micro. These are the biggest factors that they look at for admissions. Also, people with undergraduate degrees have a better chance of being admitted. Get all your pre-reqs completed prior to applying, this will make life much easier while in nursing school.

Just keep on trying and don't give up hope. I wish you luck in all you endeavors.

Good Morning OBigDog,

When you say 3.75 - was that your hs gpa or college with the pre-reqs? Did you have a bachelors? May I ask what your hs gpa/ sat scores were because I am in shock that you didn't get in with that kind of gpa. I am even more nervous! If I get into the pre-nursing program you just have to take 4 classes at their school: A&P I & 2, Math, Medical Terminology....the rest you can take anywhere. So for me since my degree was BFA I have only taken the math thus far so it would be easier to do that. I am soo nervous after reading your post!!!

I am very nervous after reading your post also!!! I definitely have no chance of getting in this time around.
