Carolinas College of Health Sciences Pre-Nursing/Nursing

Published

Hi guys!

I have applied for Carolinas College of Health Sciences pre-nursing and nursing programs for the fall 2013. After applying I recieved a letter stating that they were also going to consider me for the summer pre-nursing term even though at the time I had no idea they even had a summer program (therefore my application was processed after the summer pre-nursing application deadline but if I got in I would still be very happy!). I was wondering, if I do not get into the pre-nursing summer program or the nursing program for the fall, am I going to find out if I got into the pre-nursing program for the fall in the same letters or is that all in all a seperate letter in itself!? Just wondering if anyone could let me know that would be great! Very anxious to hear back!!

That's where I'm in school (NUR101) and I LOVE IT! Pre-nursing starts 3 times a year (Spring, Summer, Fall) whereas Nursing only starts in Spring and Fall. You should get a letter fairly soon letting you know whether or not you got in for summer pre-nursing (if you indicated that you were interested). Some people do pre-nursing as a way of earning guaranteed admission to the nursing program (like I did) while others who get admitted straight into the nursing program take classes (same as pre-nursing but are considered a general studies student) until the start of their NUR101 semester. Some people accept a spot in pre-nursing until they find out whether or not they got accepted straight into the nursing program; if they do, they give up their pre-nursing spot. Since you applied to fall nursing and pre-nursing, I believe you should hear about fall nursing acceptance by late March and fall pre-nursing in late April. There are several different ways to end up in the nursing program. The admissions office is awesome (the entire faculty and staff are awesome!) and will answer all of your questions. Good luck!

Thank you so much for responding! It is always nice to talk to a current CCHS student! Do you know if summer acceptance is more competitive than fall acceptance when it comes to pre-nursing?

I plan to attend fall 2013 I only have one pre-reqs left which is micro bio

I don't think any semester for pre-nursing is more competitive than another. It's pretty competitive no matter what. ;) Pre-nursing was definitely the right route for me. The majority of my classes from my previous major transferred (ENG, SOC, PSY, etc) so that was a huge relief. Since I didn't have any sciences to transfer, the pre-nursing program was perfect for me! I took the required A&P 1 and 2, math/dosage calculations, and med term classes and earned guaranteed admission. I took micro in the fall since there is an "off" semester between pre-nursing and nursing. Now, the only class I have is the nursing class...which believe me, is MORE than enough! It's 4-5 days a week with 2 days being ALL DAY and then hours and hours of studying and preparing for clinicals once you get home. The hardest schooling I've ever had but it is so worth it!

It's a great school! Did you receive your acceptance letter already for fall? I didn't think they had been sent out yet.

Ok great!! Thank you! I will be receiving my Bachelors in Psychology this May from UNCW so hopefully a lot of my classes will transfer as well if I hopefully get in!! I definitely want to follow the same path you did if I get in with taking micro during the "off" period so fingers crossed!!!

I'm impressed that you will already have a Bachelor's before attending CCHS! There are several students at school who have a BS is another area and then decide to go into nursing. I'm thinking about UNCW's online RN-BSN route once I graduate from CCHS. I still can't decide if I want to get my BSN -- I want to gradute and get working first so the hospital system will help pay for my BSN. :)

Yes! I found out I really wanted to get into nursing too far into my college career. I would be at UNCW for forever if I changed my major to nursing! I am very, very ready to finally finish up these psychology classes and very anxious to hear back from CCHS!! :nailbiting: Wish the letters would be sent out now! But that is a great idea to have the hospital system help pay :)

Have you found out if you were accepted??

Hi, I have also applied to CCHS for the nursing or pre/nursing Fall 2013 program ((I`m crossing my fingers to go right into nursing though since I have already done prereqs!) Every day is so nerve racking because I know we could get our letters any day, have you received yours yet?

You've already taken A&P and micro? Hope you don't have to do them again in pre-nursing. Fingers crossed you get into nursing!
