Published

Hi everyone,

as an LPN what can be our career options? I only know a few, naming long term care and hospital setting.

can anybody please enumerate some. :)

Thanks!

Depends on which province you are in.

Have you looked at your local health authority's website to see which units are hiring?

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Doctors offices. community care, factories ( I have a friend that works in a large car factory).clinics, foot care ( I know one that has her own foot care business), group homes. There are a few just off the top of my head.

I am in Ontario, I haven't look yet. So I guess I should look first and get hired then train? or can I study a program specific course for lets say OR Tech, Ortho Tech or foot care, then search the job market.

Foot care and Home care are good ways to run your own living. I liked this idea my self.

No you don't look for the job first. RPN programs are 2 years long. After you graduate and pass the licensing exam you can look for a job.You don't specialize until after you get out of school.

Home care is not self employment. You would be working for an agency.

Or do you already have an RPN license? Your post isn't clear.

I'm guessing you are not from Canada, or at least Ontario? In Ontario LPN=RPN (registered practical nurse)

There are a ton of opportunities in Ontario for RPNs and they are growing each day.

I would suggest just go to school and your find out where you want to be. If home care sounds appealing, you will have no problems getting a job. There is a shortfall of nurses in , that is expected to grow to some ridiculous number over the next 10 years.

Homecare dose offer some great flexibility, independence and a nice variety. I know many people who love it!

Good luck
