Hello All :)
I need a Level 3 Project! Any Ideas? What have some of you done at your hospital and how did it work out?
Thanks for your thoughts

Pardon me, but what is a Level 3 Project? May we have a few more details as to what exactly you are looking for? Thank you.

this project is ok'd by unit mgr presented at shared governence and something that benifits your unit, ideally one would spend 2-4hours a month on the project and either release parts of the project as it is done &/or have it completed within one year.
some examples of other projects are:
-creating spanish class/materials
-teaching a class 4-5 times a year
-doing "chart checks"
my plan was to make a resource binder for new hires that contained just quick ref. about the meds and procedures used on our unit (l&d), however i learned that our unit educater is already working on something very similar.
soooo i am trying to think of something worthy...
is anybody else involved in a "career ladder" at their hospital?

Hi,
Just stealing from myself here. I did an honors project in college on the relationships of doulas and L&D nurses. Maybe you could do either doulas classes or some sort of bi monthly meetings of the minds for RNs/techs/NA/doulas?
Never hurts to facilitate professional relationships!

I signed up to do the whole career ladder thing, but I'm probably going to end up maybe going to Level 1. If that. I just don't feel like bothering with it. I'm one of those who would just prefer to do my job and go home.
any reason for the shout?
now, i am very sorry if i offended you with my question; i honestly had no idea what you were talking about. just remember, sometimes meaning is lost online and we don't always know what you are speaking of ---so we ask for verification/more information...... and you *are* asking for *our* help.....so we try.
in any event, good luck with it, i am outa here. i dont' think i can help you. maybe others can.
And before I go, no, I am not involved in a career ladder where I work.

I think our career ladder works differently. It's designed to compensate for education then envolvment. For example: to obtain level 3 you must have BSN and 50 Points (obtained various ways... to include community involvment, CEUs, education, special projects) and at least 15 CEU. Level 4 must have BSN, RNC, 75 points and 25 CEU. etc....
Level 3 is $2.00... Level 4 is $3.00 etc...

I think we may have a similar career ladder, as we have to do a "project" to go from Level 2 to Level 3. There are other factors- educational points, certain number of hours worked, etc- but the project is the big one. Here are some examples of projects my coworkers have done:
~ one became a yoga instructor and started a weekly prenatal yoga class at the hospital
~ about 9 months before our last JCAHO survey, another nurse's project was involved with getting us all 100% in our charting- she started it off with a Jeapordy game, and continued it for about 4 weeks, with raffle prizes along the way to keep us interested
~ for her Level 4 project, another nurse revamped & took charge of bereavement- she redid the fetal demise/fetal death policy, started a partnership with a local funeral home, started a memory garden, and made all the paperwork we have to do in these cases easier. She made a binder with examples of each form we have to fill out in pretty much every scenario, and is in charge of keeping our memory boxes & supplies in stock (there were occasions in the past where we would discover, too late, that we didn't have everything we wanted).
These are the projects that come to mind, there have been others. ALl of our Level 3 & 4 nurses are also responsible for heading up one of the councils we all take part in.
Hope that helps!

Hello
I do like that idea, there is a bit of friction when a doula comes to assist. I would like to break down that barrier however I think most of my colleagues would not appreciate being "tought" by doula's. And I have to say I have only had one positive exp with a doula the other times (4) no matter how hard I tried to make her feel appreciated/welcomed she would appear defensive/angry at odds.. does that make sense? I will still try to make it work when doula's come around however I am not sure it would go over well
I really like the idea though thank you
how did your project/paper go?
