I was a telemetry tech for a year and hated it!
I first started as a PCA on the cardiac floor...loved it. But then 10 years later they decided to get rid of all PCAs/CNAs in favor of "RN total patient care."
I went back to school and worked as the tele tech during that time. My shift was 1900-0730. So watching 50+ rhythms all night for 12+ hours was mind numbing. I missed patient care
I'm now an RN and back in patient care...TOTAL patient care. ..and love it!
Congrats on your new job tho. You may enjoy it. It just wasn't for me.
Staring at monitors can be very tedious. Hopefully, you will have coverage so that you can get up at least every couple of hours and give your eyes a break. And - just to be clear, you are monitoring cardiac rhythm strips -- not EKGs; those are 12-leads. Totally different thang alltogether. If your system allows you to change leads,& use different color displays to highlight changes or alarm triggers... it's more interesting and easier to focus. But beware, it can be deadly dull.

I'm a new nursing student and just got a job at an hospital as a cardiac monitor tech. I also have a degree in exercise physiology. My job will be to interpret/read ekg findings on patients. Has anyone had this position as a job ?
My hope is to land a RN job in Cardiopulmonary rehab when I graduate.
