Is lidocaine, in a cariac arrest situation, a med that along with atropine,

and norepinephrine also used

Epinephrine is used in Cardiac arrest espcially asystole ecg reading. Atropine is for bradycadia ecg. Lidocaine (anti arrhythmic) is for Vtach but amiodarone is more preferred.

I'm assuming that since you posted in the pediatric forum, that you work in the pediatric setting. Do you have access to a PALS book that could answer your question? If there isn't one available on the unit, what about the unit educator or facility library?

Lidocaine can also be indicated in V Fib arrest. IN the pediactric population it depends on what precipitated the arrest.

We still stock lidocaine in our crash carts but the last time I saw it used was by an old-timer doc about 4 years ago.

It isn't used much anymore...you will see it in cardiac surgery patients in refractory VF or VT due to the irritation of the heart from being manhandled

I too have only seen lidocaine used maybe twice in an arrest situation in more than 17 years. I think we've actually taken it off our carts. The only time I've ever given it was in combo with fentanyl for suctioning a patient with a severe traumatic brain injury.
