Can't Get Motivated To Study re:Katrina

Published

I just can't settle down to study. I've been glued to the tv set watching the horrors of Katrina's aftermath for over 2 days now. It just keeps getting worse. How can I just ignore it? Is anyone else "distracted" and falling behind?

There is no doubt that what is happening is tragic. :scrying: Nonetheless, focus and completion should be your (and my) focus so that if the time ever comes we can do our part, doing our part. My advise, turn off the TV.

Good advice.

You have to do what you have to do so you can help in other situations in the future.

Turn off the TV.

I got 2 mos. behind during 9/11.

Stayed glued to the TV and could not concentrate or focus on my studies.

These are hard times we live in.

Try to maintain a healthy balance.

Good advice as well.

We can't do anything to help by watching the TV, and it is so very depressing.

Please everyone send money to the Red Cross!!!! Material donations will over flow, and they won't be able to use everything. (Nor do people have a place to store anything.)

My husband has the TV on all the time, especially now. I just stay upstairs and study....can't let the TV come in between myself and my RN goal. :)

I know how you feel - I am tempted to keep the news on 24/7...

During 9/11 I did, was glued for 3 months and totally stressed from it. (More to it, but will stay on topic.)

During the tsunami, I watched, wrote a ck to Doctors w/out Borders and kept up w/ my studies.

Now I watch for 1 hour a day, then turn the TV off!! Watching it, even though you are safe and sound, can trick your mind and body into stressing, just as though your were there.

I am able to keep w/ my studies now, knowing that it is providing the training and preparing me for the next "big one" - so that I can help, if I chose or it happens in my area (and I must.)

This has also reminded me to update our familiy's disaster plan, restock supplies and water, make contingency plans w/ friends/neighbors/family in the event of an emergency in my area. Having something to do is helpful.

Turn the tv off or limit your time...

Too hard to handle indeed. Best thing is like mentioned above....turn it off and keep it off until you are done with your studies and are able to sit in front of it. Also, surround yourself with lots of positive things. Cherish your loved ones, and stay focused.

I pray that soon we will put this behind us and move on. On the bright side.......today about 2/3 of Louisiana got their power back thank God. See, things will be brighter. :icon_hug:

It also bothers me. I had nightmares last night. I saw a little girl with an elderly man stuck on a car in the water, the little girl was begging the camera man in the boat passing by to please help them. The boat kept going. Every story that is coming out of there is so sad. I haven't started classes yet, that is coming next week. The price of gas is 3.35 a gallon and expected to go higher. I wonder if it keeps going up, will I be able to afford to drive to school, which is 17 miles away. I agree with the other poster, send money to Red Cross if you can afford it. When it gets too much on you from the stories, turn the tv off, focus on your studies and hope for the best for those people.

I can't donate money as I don't have much, but for those of you in the same boat donate blood. There are tons of blood drives by locals.

I live in Meridian,MS. and we finally got power back this morning. I haven't been studying because its hard to do in the dark, and theres been too much going on. I'm getting back on track today, though.

:uhoh3: I'm worried about how behind we're going to be when we are able to get back to school. (which will be Tuesday,I believe) I've already missed a full week. A&P 1 Lab meets once a week,on Monday, and we've already had to speed it up because of Labor Day being on Monday. *sigh*

But thank God my loved ones and I are alright. Thats the most important thing.

Don't worry so much about school right now. I am so glad you are okay. I am sure that things will get back to normal soon. :icon_hug:
