I know I am a new graduate nurse and should not be worried about this yet as I have to write my licensing exam in a week (I am a new graduate rpn) but I have student loans I want to pay off and I just can't live without working. I have been applying for positions since before I graduated and have heard nothing. I have even personally called managers and went to their offices to hand in my resume, they were all very impressed and told me they would give me an interview but internal applicants always get preference. I have yet to land one interview, unfortunately my pre-graduate floor is RN dominated and they had already done a mass hiring prior to my arrival on the floor.
I don't know what to do, how else do I make myself stand out. I am from the Hamilton/Niagara area.

I got my job right after grad by emailing the manager and letting her know why I was interested in the floor and why I wanted to work there. Pretty much everyone else I know that got jobs in the hospital did this as well. Hang in there, and keep emailing/going to managers! You will get something!
thanks vintage! I will, it's just so discouraging because internal applicants to HHSC and St.Joes are always given preference over external applicants, especially new graduates.
Also do you have any tips on finding clinical managers emails? As opposed to phone numbers. It's almost impossible to reach them in person as they are usually not in their office.

Internal applicants are always given preference over outside candidates. Better to hire a known quanitity. Factor in the cost of bringing in new staff and getting them up to speed. Then union seniority always comes first.
Most new grads out my way start off as casuals or in the float pool.
Take what is available and don't hold out for anything.
yeah I understand I've applied pretty much anywhere and everywhere I am not picky, I've even applied to positions that are over 5 hours away from me.
Persistence is key I guess
