Can't find job as New grad RN in WA!! Please help~

You may find that you need to put in a year at a SNF/LTC facility before any doors will open up to you. I hope things go better for you!

What hospitals have you applied at and would you be willing to work nights?

I've applied everywhere including Multicare, Swedish, Harborview, UW medicine, Highline Medical Center, St. Francis and St. Joe's, Valley Medical, Seattle Children's...the list just goes on...

I am available to work any time of day especially nights....I am a night owl so that's generally when I'm wide awake except when I have to go to classes the next day...

Do you have any advice?

The SNF/LTC was something I looked into, but one of my close friend who graduated with me quit her job 2wks after working...I guess they left her with 20 patients after 1week of training...she asked to be trained longer, but they refused so it was too chaotic for her...she didn't want to put the patients in danger most importantly...

I know every cite is different so I still looked into it, but couldn't find anything...

I hope my search ends soon...I would really love to start my career!!

Seattle Children's and UW probably won't even look at your application until you have a BSN. Have you looked outside of Seattle? I know Evergreen, Providence Everett, Tacoma General, Valley Medical, the VA and Overlake all hire new grads. Or maybe get a SNF/LTC job until you receive your BSN and more doors are opened?

I am also a newGrad searching for RN residency programs in WA. Seems like they only hire internally or previous SNs..

I would recommend new grads to work in LTC facility if they cannot find a job. I graduated last August with BSN. Couldn't find a job anywhere with 100+ applications. So I applied for nursing home, even nursing home it's hard to get a job unless they have a immediate opening. Their pays are about the same as a new grad RN in a hospital. Yes, it is tough to work in a nursing home as a new grad. But it has taught me how to manage time and prioritize. It also help me to land a job in ICU　residency for Multicare. I only received one wk of training in nursing home with 20 residents. First couple weeks is rough but nursing home is all about routine. Getting down to know what meds the residents take. Getting practice to call the MDs and give SBAR report to EMTs. 2 months working in nursing home has taught me the reality of nursing that school has never showed us. Good luck with job searching. I know it's tough out there and I feel lucky I got my dream job in ICU.
