Hey guys, Im hoping I can get words of advice from some of you better experienced Nurses out there. I've been a Nurse for 1 year. When I graduated, I had a hard time finding a job and went to a pediatric LTAC center, on a Vent unit. I worked per diem in Adult Rehab as well. Now, Im fortunate to have 2 offers from hospitals. One is in the ED and the other in Peds Med-Surg. Both are night shift. The ED is only 15 minutes from my house, and lower pay (slightly). . The Peds position is 40 minutes via subway, and higher pay. I would also have to float to L&D, Nursery, and NICU. I would also have to travel 1.5 hrs away for the first 4 weeks of training.
Im having a hard time deciding. I do like fast pace, and love inserting IVs, which I did at the rehab. I also realized I hate the same daily routine which was a huge bulk of LTAC. I did develop an appreciation for kids at the LTAC. I do have to say, parents and families were a pain in the neck, and in LTAC, they never leave.
My question is, which one out of ED or Med Surg is a good path for a Nurse coming out of LTAC? Both are really appealing to me. ED can help me gain experience with various problems and all ages. The Peds can help me continue with children. Thanks in advance!!😄

The best path depends on where you're going, not necessarily where you're coming from. I've grown to love a short drive to work, but I'd be inclined to choose the offer most likely to help with my ultimate goal(s).

If you want to be a peds nurse, I'd take the peds position.
