why so many healthcare workers, whether it be CNA, LVN, RN... are so self centered, catty, bitchy. We are all in this for the same reasons. I think

some people need to recheck themselves and see why truly they have so much hate inside. I am much hated in my class and clinicals because everything I have done thus far, is w. out mistakes. Ive already been in healthcare 4 years and am anxious to learn new things. My instructor sees this and lets me have somewhat lead way w new skills on clinical days. Im not a teachers pet or a suck up, just doing what Ive learned in a sufficent manner. If all we do is COMPLAIN.. maybe its really that individual who doesnt want to be in nursing school... all I hear is negative things, suck up.. be positive and eager to learn , sufficent and maybe the teacher would call on you next time...

HeartJulz, I understand your drive and dedication in learning and succeeding in nursing. It also seems that other people's reactions and perceptions of you are bothersome to you. Not all people will always like you and to respect you, that is always earned amongst your peers. Perhaps being more helpful to them will allow them to be more positive and less bitchy!

Decide what is important to you and trust in your decision.

Good luck;)

I really hope I wasnt coming off the wrong way .. basically I didnt want to point fingers and pretty much just needed to vent, but there are a few particular class mates that when I talk w them @ clinicals everything is super negative. Shes barely passing, because its too much work or she can not do a PPD because its too hard, shes tired, her feet hurt etc etc. And trust me I am always helpful.. w her feet I suggested inserts or new shoes, w her studying Ive offered suggestions such as a place where shes sitting so she doesnt get sleepy, the PPD's Ive tried to give her tips... I needed to vent because she was talking behind my back thinking I was a teachers pet because my instructor let me do more things than the other classmates... which I always ask them, do you want to try? BUt everyone is quiet or they pass up the opportunities to learn ... so when shes given more leadway if they dont say they want to ... I say I will try. When they are often 15-30m late to clinicals.. she lets me start med pass because no one is there but me.

So thank you for your insight, I just didnt want everyone thinking I was coming off being nasty and didnt want to help...because help is def. all I want to do, afterall I def. wouldnt be in this field if I didnt want to help

Anyway thanx again!

Totally understand that you were venting! Thank you for opening up about the details and I'm sorry if I sounded defensive towards your issue. I was just trying to open a more general perspective in hopes that it could help you. It sounds to me like you are on the right path and you probably set the standard in your class (which comes with a lot of responsibility!) Don't let other people's issues affect you because you are in nursing school and you have alot on your plate!;)

Get all you can out of scool cause you are sure going to need it after graduation. Try to be polite but there are a lot of 75%ers out there who want to do the minimum to get by and part of nursing schoolis/should be to weed them out. In our field you are someday going to be in a position you are not ready for. You suck it up stay in practice and try to keep the patient stable for the calvary. If you constantly push yourself to get better and for more knowledge you are going to be much better off on your roughest day than they will be on their roughest day. Your patients will all be better off and that is what it really is all about. People will take any opportunity to blame any one or thing but themselves for their shortcomings. Do not be arrogant but also do not let them bother you to much. Good luck in scool and life.

Hang in there....as with all things involving humans, it takes all kinds.

We had one gal this semester who really stepped in it for the next 2 semesters with the group she was in clinicals with....she was in the hall and asked our CI if she could go to lunch...another gal walked out of her pt's room and said she really needed some help....I was headed in to do something with my pt.....the "lunch" lady turned and walked away....I went and helped since I was next nearet....we were FRIED to say the least....we all took note: if she EVER asked for help, we would be too busy....

You do get what you give....and this group was a group of givers...with this one exception....

Don't worry about the other students....best wishes....

Complaing about complaining? Your post makes you look exactly like the people you are describing. Be a little more patient and tolerant of others.

I would say yes there are hateful and petty nurse and even more in management but I would also say that those types are in every field.

i'm not in nursing school yet, just got accepted for fall. =) i totally have this problem though! it is awful and draining and i always wonder if i'm doing something wrong. i am a good student, usually have the best or second best grade in the class, have two kids, don't work (just some back ground). i'm outgoing and make a lot of "friends" in my classes. we all talk about grades, i happen to get good ones. other people hear me and just because i do well act like i'm being pompous or a bragger. is it so awful to be proud of yourself or do a good job? sometimes even my "friends" give my crap about it. i almost get embarrassed now when i get tests back, like it's shameful to do better than people. don't want to take over your post but i totally know how you feel. i know it can really make you question yourself. i know there are people that really do talk themselves up too much but to me it sounds like you just do your best and are eager to learn.

Spriess, I found once I was in the nursing program (I'm graduating from yours in a few days!) that that kind of talk really lessened. In prerequisites we're all super-concerned about grades, because we're trying to get into nursing school and the admissions scene is so tough. But once my class got used to the idea "OK, we're all in, they're going to let us all be nurses", there was no sense of competition and much less talk about grades. A couple of people were still highly competitive, but the rest of us sort of ignored that aspect of their personalities.

I think it is just because some women are caddy and snotty to each other...put them all in a room and you've got a bunch of women who are caddy and snotty! Bring on the male nurses!! They seem to balance out the estrogen!

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! That must be an awesome feeling. Thanks for the insight too. That really does make a lot of sense and gives me hope!
