Hi, I am an emerg trained RN currently in Vancouver who is interested in going to California to travel nurse or work in a single hospital. I was wondering inf anyone is aware of any reputable agencies or Hospitals who recruit Canadian nurses and provide payment for their relocation/licensing fees?

Thanks

For some reason that link isn't working properly. If you google Canadian Travel Nurses, the page will come up. They are also on facebook.

I've used Response One Medical staffing back when I was traveling. They are a small local California company that is owned by and ran by nurses. The owner is great and the pay is substantial. If you do some leg work on your own and find your own housing then taking the tax free housing stipend is the way to go. They also have a per diem agency in their company so if no OT available at your contracted site then they can arrange per diem shifts within the same city if available and if your interested. As far as relocation and license I'm not sure on. I was already licensed in cali and already here when I started using them. They do pay a travel stipend, usually $500 on the front and $500 on the back end of your contract but its been almost a year since I worked as a nurse so things may have changed. If you havent already started getting your paperwork in order, you should start, it will take months. You need to write the Apply for the state license, write the NCLEX, get the VISA screen certificate from CGFNS, Apply for US social security card ect. Im from Alberta and before I went to California it took me a good year to get it sorted out because of problems with the California board of nursing not getting my transcripts, CGFNS loosing my paperwork ect. Issues getting my social security card. My recruiter actually wrote the senator I think to get the process sped up because they also cause greif. PITA if I do say so. Once you have it all in hand its easy after that. The company that I did my first contract with helped me imensely to get everything. Most companies from what I read will reimburse for alot of the paperwork fees. The smaller companies will typically pay a bit better and its easier to negotiate wages, housing stipends ect. So after I finally got all my paperwork, I did some contracts in California, and got sick of it, now im in Alaska :) If you have any questions about the process, PM me. Most agencies will help you with the process, they know how it works usually because you are a Canadian citizen. Its much easier to go work in the US, then our US friends trying to get work in Canada

To creamsoda. Hi I am from Alberta too! Which recruit agency did you go with to apply for California? I am in the process of trying to write my NCLEX, but in order to write it, I now need a U.S security number.
