Canadian nurses doing foreign degrees

Hi. Is there any Canadian nurses out there who took a post-RN degree from foreign schools? For example, Universiry of Pheonix? What was it like? Has it been recognised in Canada?

I have asked this before but did not hear from any nurses who have done it while in Canada.

Hope someone can help

It has been accepted in Canada..............provided that the RN had a degree already..........even in the US, it is used for nurses that already have completed the two year program for the ADN or Diploma. They are now starting to offer LPN to RN, but again, that is for those that already have a nursing degree. They do not start with the initial basics.

The requirements for Canada is an approved School of Nursing in the US that grants the BSN, and this program meets the requirements. But you will have to complete the clinical time in US facilities in most cases. Or get special permission from the facility where you are working, best bet is to contact U of P directly.

Thanks for that.

What about Graduate level degrees?

Graduate degree if you already have a BSN is no issue, but the direct entry programs that are direct MSN, may not meet the requirements.

If you already have a license, then whatever degree that you go on for is not an issue.

I work with 2 ladies who had gotten a BN and MN from University of Phoenix.

The one for the BN liked the delivery method and pace of the BN program.

The MN one needed to obtain in order to continue to teach theory at the college/university. She found it expensive but well worth it.

Hope that helps.

I did my BSN via distance ed with St.Joseph's College in Maine. They have many many Canadians that take the program there. They also have MSN via distance ed. Fully accredited, they also have an on campus program.

There are some options for distance ed in Canada as well. Consider Athabasca U!

Look up Excelsior College in NY too. I have just started with them and am excited about the program. I am staying in the US (with the hubby) so I dont know if it will cross the border, but I find the closer to the border the better for stuff like that. I beleive they are in ALbany.

Can you believe this? I am in Utah and I cant find a bank that will give me a money order in Canadian funds!!!

Please make sure that this program is accepted where you wish to practice. It is not accepted in all states in the US.

Hi I am an RN in Quebec and you really need to think about the money...the average for distance ed course is roughly $25000-35000..US!!!!
